Job summary

Simplot Company is seeking a Process Lab Technician for the Don Plant in Pocatello, Idaho. The role reports to the Process Engineering Manager and supports plant efficiency, audits, troubleshooting, and testing in collaboration with engineers and operators.

Responsibilities include audits across acid and granulation processes, lab-scale testing, data reporting, and adherence to safety and environmental standards, with emphasis on accuracy and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education, 2- or 4-year degree in a related field preferred.
• 3+ years related experience or training.
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively with operators and managers.
• Must be attentive to technical details and have excellent written and verbal communication.
• Computer knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word and Excel required.
• Must be capable of developing, documenting, and executing sampling, experiments, and test protocols.
• Demonstrate ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine process and product audits in support of the phosphoric acid plant, granulation plant, sulfuric acid plant, etc.
• Troubleshoots manufacturing processes by measuring gas and fluid flows, pressures, temperatures, and densities throughout the various processes.
• Supports the process engineering team by performing lab-scale process optimization tests and raw material and reagent screenings.
• Periodically validates operator sampling and testing to ensure accuracy and repeatability.
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment and ensures that lab equipment under their purview remain operational, calibrated, and certified.
• Develops test protocols and SOPs and generates reports and presentations based on test data
• Conducts month-end balances for utility allocation and raw material efficiency
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs

Summary

The Process Lab Technician works under the Process Engineering Manager and supports the success of the Don Plant operation through routine process audits, troubleshooting efforts, process optimization testing, and direct interface with operations personnel. This position will contribute to the Don Plant’s process efficiency and environmental compliance by providing assistance to the various production units. Process Lab Technicians work closely with the process engineers and process engineering interns to align on priorities in support of these goals.
