Job summary

Amcor is seeking a Production Operator to monitor daily production, quality and scrap, and maximize equipment uptime in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will work across extrusion, bag, and packaging lines, setting up job changes and coordinating maintenance to keep lines running smoothly.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and 3+ years in manufacturing, with experience on multiple production areas.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical courses preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in manufacturing processes in blown film operations or related.
• Experience on various production lines (Twist tie, Drawstring, Roll Stock) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Monitor daily production, quality and scrap; maximize equipment operations.
• Set up job changes with Senior Operators to minimize downtime.
• Coordinate maintenance to ensure production lines run safely and efficiently.
• Train and develop operators; assist with training needs with HR and managers.
• Troubleshoot equipment and suggest solutions; review and update processes as needed.

About the role

Under the supervision of the Process Engineering Manager, incumbent will be responsible for monitoring daily production, quality and scrap and maximizing equipment operations within established standards. Incumbents may be assigned to work in all areas of production.

Key Job Accountabilities

Duties Common to All Operators

• Follows all Company policies regarding safety, quality and attendance. Performs duties in a safe manner and reports all observed safety hazards to manager. Participates in safety programs by reporting Unsafe Conditions, Unsafe Acts and Close Calls; enters Near Miss data and observations into Global Data Center database (GDC)
• Maintains assigned area free of safety hazards; reports safety issues to the Process Engineering Manager or Safety Manager; works in a safe manner and acts as an example to other team members.
• Organizes and leads employee driven teams to address scrap, quality, safety or other production related issues.
• Works on a variety of equipment and machines (extruders, bag machines, folders, automation, winders, box machines, etc.) and maximizes equipment operations and up time on all equipment while maintaining quality and production rates.
• Troubleshoots equipment; determines and recommends appropriate solutions.
• Reviews processes and procedures and updates as needed.
• Sets up job changes; works with Senior Operators and Operators to ensure efficient job changes and reduce down time.
• Coordinate maintenance functions as needed to ensure production lines are operating. Follow-up on all work orders to ensure that the closed looped system is followed.
• Trains and develops Senior Operators and assists them with training subordinate operators. Assesses training needs and works with Process Engineering Manager and Human Resources to schedule and/or develop appropriate training.
• Responsible for startups of new equipment; evaluates performance and integrates new equipment into production process.

Education:

High school diploma or GED; one to two years' technical school or college level courses preferred.

Skills/Experience:

In addition to the educational requirements incumbents must have 3 or more years of experience in manufacturing processes in blown film operations. Prior experience in various areas of production such as Twist tie, Drawstring, Roll Stock, etc. as an Operator or Senior Operator highly desirable.

Minimum education and years of experience should not be used exclusive of other leveling factors described below.

Additional Requirements:

• Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have general knowledge of computers in order to complete assignments on Berry University and access Berry Self Service, JDE and a variety of input reporting, Experience with Microsoft products (Word, Excel and Power Point).
• Mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work activities and to handle multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to make practical decisions without appreciable direction or advance preparation
• Working knowledge of a variety of computer software utilized to prepare reports and correspondence and manage production activities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand and/or walk for 8 to 12-hour shifts. Employee must be able to climb stairs to the towers. Employee is also required to lift/carry up to 35 lbs. unassisted. Employee is required to use hands and fingers to thread plastic, turn knobs and use a variety of wrenches and hand tools. Employees must be able to drive a forklift and must have 20/20 vision with corrective lenses and Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.

Work Environment

The work environment is noisy, and hearing protection is required for all employees. Employees are often required to work in situations where temperature, humidity, and other weather conditions are often adverse. Employees must be able to wear other PPE such as ear, eye and foot protection as required. Other PPE such as cut gloves, face shields and burn gloves may be required for certain activities.
