Job summary

20BLOC in Thousand Oaks, CA is seeking a hands-on Process Scientist/Engineer to lead bioprocessing improvements and validate current manufacturing processes as we scale.

The role requires deep expertise in protein purification, downstream processing, and running experiments to test new technologies. You will collaborate with Manufacturing, MSAT, Quality and Engineering in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering or related science areas.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in bioprocessing environments including biotech or pharma.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and time management skills are critical.
• Ability to draw process flow diagrams electronically a strong plus.
• Exposure to proteins or large molecule chemistry a strong plus. Experience with production concepts and designs strongly preferred.
• Exposure to fermentation and upstream processing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment in pilot plant manufacturing, such as manual or semi-automated processing equipment, fluid handling, TFF, chromatography, press scales, chillers and skids with strict adherence to written procedures, protocols, and safety compliance.
• Design experiments to test scaled down manufacturing processes to assess potential changes to the existing manufacturing process. Develop plans for implementation at the pilot manufacturing scale and execute accordingly.
• Drive deep technical understanding of unit operations within the team to make well informed decisions despite uncertainty and incomplete data.
• Assist in the review of documentation such as equipment logs, BOMs, and batch records according to quality systems standards as required.
• Perform and monitor critical processes, troubleshoot and course-correct equipment operation.
• Conduct risk analyses to mitigate risks and recommend operational improvements.
• Communicate project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders and management.

We are looking for a motivated, hands-on Process Scientist/Engineer to join our team. This person will bring strong bioprocessing expertise with experience in protein purification and downstream processing, including design and execution of experiments to test new technologies and will help validate and improve our current manufacturing processes as we continue to scale.

How you will add value to 20BLOC

The Process Scientist/Engineer will play a key role in advancing 20BLOC’s manufacturing capabilities by leading engineering projects that validate and improve the current process. This is a highly hands-on position for someone with deep bioprocessing process knowledge who is comfortable setting up, operating, and troubleshooting equipment in a regulated manufacturing environment. The role works closely with Manufacturing, MSAT, Quality, and Engineering, and may also provide leadership to the engineering team as needed.

This is a full-time, on-site position located in Thousand Oaks, California, and requires working on-site Monday through Friday. All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are not sponsoring employment visas.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $90,000.00. to $120,00.00 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including, without limitation, individual education, experience, tenure, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data, including potential adjustments for geographic location.
