Job summary

Mercor is seeking a Contract Industrial Hygienist / Process Safety Engineer to work remotely. The role combines exposure assessment, hazard analysis, and regulatory compliance with AI safety evaluation responsibilities.

The candidate will write chemistry safety prompts, evaluate model responses, and collaborate with AI teams to refine risk judgments, all while maintaining flexible hours.

Qualifications

• Certified industrial hygienist with exposure assessment, sampling strategy, and control banding.
• Experience in process hazard analysis including HAZOP, LOPA, and management of change.
• Expertise in toxic release and dispersion modeling, with knowledge of AEGL/ERPG criteria.
• Experience in ventilation, containment, and PPE program design for chemical hazards.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance such as PSM, Seveso, COMAH, or OSHA.

Responsibilities

• Write challenging single-turn prompts in chemistry and chemical safety with benign/dual-use/adversarial labeling.
• Evaluate AI model responses against policy standards and judge correctness of handling.
• Create reference answers with technical reasoning for correct responses.
• Assess dual-use scenarios and ensure models refuse dangerous questions while answering legitimate ones.
• Collaborate with AI research teams to improve model judgment on misuse potential.
• Work independently and asynchronously with flexible hours.

• Evaluate AI model responses against a defined policy standard. Judge correctness of handling.

• Collaborate with AI research teams to improve model judgment on misuse potential.
• Work independently and asynchronously. Maintain flexible hours.
