The role reports to the Plant Engineering Manager and focuses on capital project execution and safety improvements within a 6-plant complex with ~1500

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in chemical manufacturing or agricultural processing facility.
  • Strong problem solving, diagnostic, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage projects.
  • Willingness to work in plant environments including hot/cold temperatures and confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a facility process safety culture and drive risk reduction.
  • Monitor and report process safety performance at the facility.
  • Lead PHAs, LOPA, PSSR, incident investigations, and PSM/TPS audits.
  • Develop and maintain TPS programs and documentation.
  • Deliver capital projects safely, on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate with maintenance on asset reliability and MOC reviews.
  • Lead RCA on equipment failures and implement long-term fixes.
  • Support high-pressure hydrogen production systems.

This role provides a unique opportunity to develop expertise in both process safety and plant engineering while building leadership experience across operations, maintenance, reliability, and capital project execution.In your role as the process safety engineer, you will lead the implementation of ADM's Total Process Safety (TPS) program, including Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated chemicals and other potentially dangerous processes (PDPs), to meet and exceed corporate and local compliance standards. In addition, you will serve as a key engineering resource for the facility, leading process and maintenance improvement initiatives that enhance safety, reliability, and operational performance. Through the design and execution of projects, you will help create a safer, more efficient and dependable operation.This role will be based in the Decatur Glycols facility, which produces USP grade propylene glycol from bio based glycerin via catalytic hydrogenolysis. The facility also operates a steam methane reforming (SMR) hydrogen plant. The position reports to the plant Engineering Manager.The Decatur Complex, located in Decatur, IL, consists of 6 processing plants, onsite cogeneration and water treatment facilities, and employs ~1500 plant operations colleagues and an additional ~1000 contractors.**Job Responsibilities*** Foster a facility process safety culture based on reviewing and meeting goals, continuous risk reduction, and prevention of process safety incidents.* Monitor, evaluate, and report process safety performance at the facility* Lead and participate in process hazard analyses (PHAs), layers of protection analysis (LOPA), pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR), incident investigations, and PSM/TPS compliance audits.
