Brightsmith is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to help shape safety from design through operation in a fully remote role in the United States. You will lead safety governance, hazard analysis and risk decisions in a small, autonomous team.

You will apply nuclear and chemical safety methods to ensure compliant, auditable safety basis for existing facilities and future projects, with emphasis on regulatory alignment (NRC/DOE) and rigorous technical writing.

Formación

• Degree (or higher) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or related field.
• Strong nuclear industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Proven experience carrying out radiological and/or chemical safety analyses for a nuclear or chemical processing facility.
• Familiarity with US nuclear regulation (NRC and/or DOE).

Are you excited about building something new in nuclear? Our client is an early-stage nuclear company looking for a Process Safety Engineer to shape how safety is built into its facilities, from design through to operation. You'll report to the Head of Regulatory and have real autonomy. It's a small team, so your work will be visible and your impact immediate.

The role

You’ll provide independent technical direction across nuclear safety, process safety, authorization and risk governance. You’ll turn hazard and accident analysis into defensible safety-basis decisions and help build a culture of operational discipline that stands up to audit.

Key responsibilities

• Support regulatory compliance and safety governance across the company's facility programs
• Lead safety-basis and authorization work for new facilities
• Establish consistent hazard-identification practices, risk-governance standards, technical decision criteria and management reporting
• Integrate process and nuclear safety into design, construction, commissioning, startup and operation
• Degree (or higher) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or a related field. Strong nuclear industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Proven experience carrying out radiological and/or chemical safety analyses for a nuclear or chemical processing facility, including consequence and source term analysis
• Strong quantitative and technical writing skills
• The ability to pick up new regulatory frameworks, codes and methodologies quickly. You don't need to arrive knowing everything, but you do need to get there fast.
• Familiarity with US nuclear regulation (NRC and/or DOE)
• Safety-basis experience in a regulated nuclear or chemical environment
• Experience with consequence assessment tools such as RASCAL or ALOHA
