Job description

Antora Energy delivers affordable, reliable energy to industry, data centers, and the grid. Our thermal batteries turn low-cost electricity into always-on heat and power, without supply-constrained critical minerals or multi-year construction timelines. We are growing our company with people who put team and mission first, value connection through laughter and joy, and work with humility and openness. We are committed to building a diverse, passionate, and creative team dedicated to a future powered by abundant, clean, low-cost energy.

Position Summary

The Process Safety Engineer will build and lead Antora’s process safety program — a fit-for-purpose adaptation of PSM and RMP best practices that adds value and reduces risk across Antora’s thermal energy storage facilities which are not formally covered by OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119) or EPA RMP (40 CFR Part 68). This role is the process safety subject matter expert on the EH&S team, partnering with engineering, operations, and R&D to embed process safety into how Antora designs, builds, starts up, and operates its facilities. The role will own the core process safety elements — process hazard analysis, management of change, pre-startup safety review, operating procedures, and process safety information — and represent EH&S in design reviews and PHAs. Over time, this role is also expected to grow Antora’s emergency response and Incident Command System (ICS) capability across our facilities.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Build and lead a fit-for-purpose process safety program that adapts the intent of OSHA PSM and EPA RMP to Antora’s specific hazards and scale, prioritizing the elements that deliver real risk reduction over processes implemented for its own sake.
  • Facilitate and document process hazard analyses using appropriate methods — HAZOP, What-If, What-If/Checklist, and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) — and drive the resulting recommendations to closure.
  • Represent EH&S in engineering design reviews, reading and marking up P&IDs and process design documentation to identify and address hazards early, when they are cheapest to resolve.
  • Own and mature the Management of Change (MOC) process so that changes to equipment, chemicals, technology, procedures, and facilities are evaluated for process safety impact before implementation.
  • Establish effective Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes to verify that new and modified installations are safe to start up.
  • Design the framework for maintaining process safety information (PSI) — chemical hazard data, process chemistry and technology, and equipment design basis — and partner with operations to build clear, accurate operating procedures.
  • Support mechanical integrity, incident investigation, and process safety‑related training as the program matures.
  • Grow into and help build Antora’s emergency response and Incident Command System (ICS) capability — helping facilities plan for, train on, and respond to emergencies in a structured, scalable way.
  • Track and report process safety metrics and leading/lagging indicators to give leadership clear visibility into risk and program health.
  • Stay current on process safety codes, standards, and industry best practices (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, CCPS/AIChE guidance, NFPA, API) and translate them into practical, actionable guidance for Antora.
Key Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Direct experience helping companies establish, implement, or sustain OSHA PSM and/or EPA RMP programs.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating process hazard analyses (HAZOP, What-If, LOPA) and driving recommendations to closure.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret P&IDs and process design documentation, and to represent EH&S in design reviews.
  • Working knowledge of the core process safety elements: PHA, MOC, PSSR, operating procedures, PSI, mechanical integrity, and incident investigation.
  • The judgment to right‑size process safety practices to a company’s actual hazards and scale, rather than applying a one‑size‑fits‑all approach.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills to work across engineering, operations, R&D, and leadership, and to make process safety accessible in plain language.
  • A mindset that approaches work with openness and humility with the goal of finding the best solution to an issue that is in alignment with our Mission.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced work environment with conflicting priorities with a balance of patience and determination.
Additional Qualifications Desired
  • Experience with emergency response and the Incident Command System (ICS), or a strong interest in growing into this space.
  • Experience with LOPA and other semi‑quantitative or quantitative risk assessment methods.
  • Experience in the energy, refining, chemical processing, or similar complex process facilities.
  • Familiarity with facility siting studies, combustible/flammable materials handling, or dust hazard analysis.
  • Experience standing up a voluntary, fit-for-purpose process safety program at a company that was not previously PSM‑covered.
