Job summary

Lithium Americas is seeking a Process Research Engineer to lead experimental campaigns in developing and optimizing clay extraction processes at the Reno, NV site. You will design bench and pilot-scale studies to prove concepts for safe, efficient, and low-cost lithium processing, including clay leaching, neutralization and precipitation, with opportunities in crystallization and solid/liquid separation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering or relevant field; Masters/PhD preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years in industrial research, preferably mining or hydrometallurgy.
  • Familiarity with analytical instrumentation and metallurgical characterization methods.
  • Strong data management, reporting and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy experimental campaigns to develop and optimize key unit operations for clay extraction.
  • Guide team using scientific principles and creative thinking to address technical challenges.
  • Manage data flows and reporting for research projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers, geologists and contractors to refine models and accelerate development.
  • Evaluate and select advanced technologies via cost/benefit analyses.
  • Foster innovation through constructive challenge and vendor engagement.
