Job summary

CFD Research Corporation seeks a mechanical design engineer to lead process piping and hardware development for high-pressure and high-temperature systems in Huntsville/Hollywood, AL. You will work with government customers, perform simulations, and create fabrication drawings using SolidWorks and related tools.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of piping experience, familiarity with ASME standards, and a proven ability to analyze fluid systems.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or related engineering field.
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience in fluid analysis and piping design including process component selection and process fluid design architecture.
• Experience performing design and analysis of piping and tubing systems.
• Knowledge of propulsion and fluid system components (valves, regulators, high-pressure storage).
• Experience creating fabrication and installation drawings with SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

• Perform process piping and mechanical design from concept through construction in Huntsville, AL and Hollywood, AL.
• Interact with government customers and stakeholders to align with objectives and constraints.
• Generate and interpret structural, thermal, and fluid simulation results to support design options.
• Apply common-sense engineering approaches to hardware design, testing, and verification.

CFD Research Corporation is developing advanced high speed/hypersonic testing technologies which will have the ability to maintain high quality flow characteristics and significantly advance the technologies used for test and evaluation of high-speed systems. The position will encompass process piping and mechanical design from concept through construction in both Huntsville, AL and Hollywood, AL

The ideal candidate will have experience working engineering tasks related to designing to ASME standards, fabrication, and construction of high pressure and temperature piping components. The candidate must be able to generate and interpret structural, thermal, and fluid simulation results when considering design options and weighing tradeoffs in design to best meet customer objectives. The candidate should be comfortable interacting with multiple stakeholders, including the government customer. This position will require a driven individual with a common-sense approach to hardware engineering and a passion for designing/analyzing/testing technologies.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or related engineering field
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Experience in fluid analysis and piping design including process component selection and process fluid design architecture
• Experience performing design and analysis of piping and tubing systems
• Knowledge of propulsion and fluid system components (i.e. valves, regulators, and high-pressure storage for fuels, oxidizers, and other fluids)
• Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods of piping systems (tube stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.)
• Experience creating fabrication and installation drawings with SolidWorks

Desired

• Familiarity and application of industry standards including: ASME/ANSI B16 and B31, API, etc.
• Experience with analysis tools such as ABAQUS CAE, ANSYS, Thermal Desktop
• Currently holding a Secret Clearance
• 10 years of high pressure/high temperature piping experience in oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation, or aerospace industry

Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and have ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Location

This role is based in Hollywood, AL with occasional travel to the Huntsville, AL area and is 100% onsite.
