Job summary

Lesaffre Corporation in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Process Operator to ensure production of a quality yeast product by following established procedures and performing sanitation duties. This is a rotational night shift from 6p-6a and reports to the Process Supervisor.

You will follow fermentation procedures, monitor equipment, read safety data, and maintain accurate process documentation. Training in other departments may be required, and you will help keep the facility clean and compliant

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or 3 years of experience in a similar position.
• Ability to follow instructions, learn, and ask questions.
• Good people and communication skills.
• Ability to manage time and plan ahead.
• Ability to multi-task and troubleshoot.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes preferred.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
• Mathematical/Basic Science skills.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety protocols and participate in safety programs.
• Follow established fermentation procedures, adjust processes or equipment as needed.
• Notify Supervisor of equipment failures and major problems in the process.
• Follow the production schedule.
• Follow CIP and syrup/raw materials procedures.
• Read MSDS for chemicals used in fermentation and handle chemicals safely.
• Operate equipment and perform basic lab analyses.
• Train and work in other departments as needed.
• General cleaning and other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the table:

The Process Operator ensures production of a quality yeast product by following established procedures and performing various sanitation duties. This requires a wide range of knowledge and skills, many of which can be learned on the job. This position reports directly to the Process Supervisor. May also receive direction from the CY/NUT Supervisor or other department management personnel as required. This is a rotational night shift position from 6p-6a.

What you’ll do as a Process Operator:

• Demonstrates an unwavering commitment to Lesaffre's safety-first culture by strictly following all safety protocols and participating in required safety programs
• Follow established fermentation procedures, make adjustments to the processes or processing equipment, manually or through a central processing computer.
• Notify Supervisor of equipment failures and when major fermentation problems or variations in the process are detected.
• Follow the production schedule.
• Follow established cleaning (CIP) and syrup/raw materials procedures.
• Responsible for reading and understanding material safety data for chemicals used in the fermentation process.
• Follow all procedures/precautions when adding chemicals to the fermentation process and working around chemicals.
• Run the separation of the yeast after fermentation.
• Learn to comply with all established safety, GMP, and food safety rules of the plant as well as general company policies.
• Verify accuracy of all information.
• Record and maintain accurate written and electronic information for fermentation, separation, CIPs, or any other documents required by company to regulate parameters, procedures and equipment through basic laboratory analysis, simple calculations and computer controls.
• Communicate and interact with other employees, customers, and management personnel in a respectful and effective manner.
• Follow syrup/molasses processes from start to end to minimize loss.
• Train and work in other departments in the facility as needed. This may include truck-loading, packaging, cleaning for customer audits, and filling in for various absences throughout the facility. Work is assigned depending upon operational needs.
