IKG Corp. in Indiana is seeking a hands-on Metal Fabrication Operator to load slit coil, monitor the payoff process, and move finished products to staging areas.

You will thread, cut, match ends, and weld coil ends with attention to safety and quality. A high school diploma and some manufacturing experience are required; welding trade school is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma and some manufacturing or related experience.
  • Trade school welding preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents as well as technical manuals and materials. Ability to write clear instructions and fill out required paperwork.
  • Ability to perform basic math as it relates to production items.

Responsibilities

  • Loads slit coil onto payoff racks and monitors coil payoff while running.
  • Unloads finished product and moves to designated staging areas.
  • Threads, cuts, matches ends and welds coil ends.
  • Assists operator in set-ups and observes material for malfunctions or problems.
  • Performs minor maintenance and reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Maintains neat and orderly work area and adheres to safety rules.

Position Summary

Load slit coil onto payoff racks and monitor coil payoff while running, insuring smooth and steady operation. Unloads finished product and moves to designated staging areas. Threads, cuts, matches ends and welds coil ends.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assists operator in making set-ups as required.
  • Observes incoming material, monitors coil feed process, manipulates controls as required and advises Operator in event of malfunction or material problems.
  • Loads welder with slit coil using fork trucks, coil grippers and other appropriate material handling equipment.
  • Monitors run out equipment, shear and off-load equipment. Checks material coming off welder and identifies finished grating pieces, and writes up jobs. Reports apparent defects or equipment malfunction to Operator and/or Supervisor. Unload material into designated areas.
  • Performs minor maintenance reports any malfunction of equipment to supervisor.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned by Supervisor such as, but not limited to inventory counts, unloading incoming materials, loading raw material, etc.
  • Maintains neat and orderly work area.
  • Restocks coils of flat bar, loads, threads, cuts, matches end and welds ends together, as required.
  • Performs job functions using safe work practices.
  • Required to adhere to all safety rules and regulations and participate in safety efforts.

Education and/or Experience:
  • High School diploma and some manufacturing or related experience.

Physical Activity of the Position:

  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
