Job summary

Golden State Foods is seeking a Sr. Continuous Improvement Engineer to lead daily management and loss-elimination initiatives on the production line.

You will own the centerline management system, coach teams, drive problem solving, and partner with quality and maintenance to sustain process improvements. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, 2 years in manufacturing CI, and preferred Six Sigma certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering: Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical preferred.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment implementing Continuous Improvement tools.
  • Food Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Six Sigma Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own the centerline management Daily Management System for the line.
  • Develop, strengthen and sustain capability of the team to follow centerline DMA Systems with excellence.
  • Lead Shift Hand-Off, Operational Reviews to identify losses and coach teams.
  • Ensure daily management addresses outages and quality issues.
  • Coach on GPS (IWS) tools to solve problems and improve standards.
  • Own quality measures on the line scorecard and drive gap analysis.

About The Job

The Sr. Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for using expertise and experience to lead daily management systems and loss elimination processes that enable stable, reliable production of high quality products.

What You'll Do
  • Own the centerline management Daily Management System for the line
  • Develop, strengthen and sustain capability of the team to follow centerline Daily Management Systems with excellence
  • Assist in leading the Shift Hand-Off, Shift Operational Review, Daily Operational Review, and Weekly Operational Review to understand losses, coach, build capability, etc.
  • Ensure team daily management addresses centerline/Q-factor outages and quality issues
  • Engage and add value in Daily Management Systems and Equipment health checks with the line leader and team leaders to coach standards management
  • Eliminate and prevent barriers for the line around quality related standard execution
  • Own all quality measures on the scorecard for the line and execute gap analysis / action planning process
  • Ensure set-up / changeovers are executed per the standards and own ongoing improvement/loss elimination of the procedures
  • Work with the project resources to ensure all the impacts to quality and centerline management are managed
  • Engage and work with the teams and incoming material quality system owners to ensure materials issues are addressed and root caused appropriately
  • Own the food safety program for the line
  • Own master sanitization for the line
  • Communication - ensure the teams are receiving the right information for quality, standards, and centerline management
LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
  • Tour Leadership (Coaching team on standards execution)
  • Coach the teams on keeping the line at base condition
  • Department level system ownership (could also own a site level system)
  • Be a coach for the teams on the use of GPS (IWS) tools to solve problems (Why Why, Basic Problem Solving, etc.)
  • Escalate issues that need further attention properly
  • Demonstrate the GSF Creed and Values
Education/Certification
WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering: Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical preferred.

Experience
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment implementing Continuous Improvement tools; OR in a continuous improvement role.
  • Food Manufacturing (preferred)
  • Six Sigma Certification (preferred)
Language Skills
  • High level of reading comprehension
  • Ability to write detailed correspondence and documentation
  • Ability to use effective problem solving skills
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to utilize complex mathematical formulas and ability to relate scientific theory to real world work processes
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment and/or clothing
  • Stand/walk 8 or more hours per day
  • Constantly twist/turn and talk/hear
  • Frequently squat, bend, reach, handle/finger, grip/grasp and use fine motor tasks
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs from floor to shoulder level and carry 30 feet
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions
  • Constantly work in damp, wet, humid and slippery environments
  • Constantly work near moving machinery
  • Constantly work in cold (35-40 degrees)
  • Constantly work in high noise levels requiring hearing protection
Machines/Tools/Equipment/Software
  • Bump cap, hair net, safety glasses, hearing protection, and smock.
  • Rubber and cotton gloves.
  • Knowledge of equipment on the production line you are responsible for
  • Advanced level of computer skills
