Job summary

MRP Solutions is seeking a Process Engineer, Molding to lead injection molding process development, qualification and optimization. You will drive scientific molding projects, troubleshoot molds, mentor technicians, and deliver production-ready molds to the Somerset site.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in process engineering within high-volume molding, plus experience with Stack Molds, RGJ/John Bozelli/AIM systems, and hot runner tooling.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in process engineering, preferably in high-volume molding.
  • BS or BSAS Engineering; plastics, mechanical or chemical preferred.
  • Strong background in injection molding processing and process optimization.
  • Experience with Stack Molds preferred and caps/closures molding is ideal.
  • Experience with Systematic Molding (RJG, Bozelli, AIM).
  • Familiarity with hot runner systems (Husky, Mold Master) and related tooling.
  • Proven communication, teamwork and mentoring ability.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
  • Local to Somerset, NJ site and able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and qualification of new mold projects using scientific molding principles.
  • Support manufacturing with process and machine-related issues to deliver production-ready molds.
  • Deliver and hand off production-ready molds and processes to Somerset, NJ site.
  • Conduct resin qualifications and data-driven feasibility studies.
  • Perform DOE and SIM studies including cavity balance and rheology analyses.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to molding staff.
  • Support continuous improvement programs and process development training.
  • Promote in-control and capable processes through monitoring.

Salary Range: $97,000.00 To $126,400.00 Annually

SUMMARY:

The Process Engineer is responsible for developing, qualifying, and optimizing injection molding processes using scientific molding principles. This role supports Manufacturing with process, machine, and mold-related issues, leads process improvement and troubleshooting efforts, and ensures production-ready molds and processes are successfully implemented. The position also provides technical leadership, training, and mentorship while driving process capability, continuous improvement, and data-driven solutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • New and existing mold qualification using scientific molding principles
  • Support manufacturing with process and process versus machine/mold related issues
  • Deliver and hand off production ready molds and processes to Somerset, NJ manufacturing site.
  • Perform alternative resin qualifications & provide data driven reporting on feasibility of implementation
  • Perform design of experiments & SIM studies including cavity balance, pack/hold studies, rheology curves and clamp tonnage scans
  • Assist with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to process technicians, operators and other molding personnel.
  • Support Manufacturing Operations with continuous improvement and process optimization programs
  • Assist manufacturing sites with process control and process development training developed by engineering solutions team.
  • Drive continuous improvement In Control & Capable process monitoring efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS/TRAVEL:

  • 7+ yrs. of hands-on experience in process engineering (preferably in a high volume, high cavitation molding environment)
  • BS or BSAS Engineering Degree. Disciplines of Plastics, Mechanical or Chemical are preferred.
  • Strong and diverse technical background in injection molding processing.
  • Experience with Stack Molds preferred
  • Caps/Closures experience ideal with medical and packaging molding secondary
  • Experience with Systematic Molding. Ex: RJG, John Bozelli, AIM
  • Experience with hot runner systems (Husky, Manner, Mold Master), hot tip & valve gated
  • Demonstrated superior communication (written and verbal), teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to think out of the box and recommend options.
  • Demonstrate teamwork in a cross-functional environment
  • Proven ability to develop, train & mentor process technicians
  • 25% domestic travel. Mainly to other MRP sites as needed.
  • Must be local to MRP manufacturing site in Somerset, NJ.
  • It may be required to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
