Job summary

Armstrong World Industries is seeking a process engineer to drive manufacturing improvements at our Hilliard facility. You will lead projects from concept to execution, analyze production issues with data and floor observations, and apply Lean, Six Sigma, DOE, and SPC to achieve measurable gains.

The role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration with operations and technical teams, plus opportunities to influence plant performance and energy optimization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and lead manufacturing process improvement projects.
  • Analyze production issues using data and on-the-floor observations.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure products meet technical specifications and quality standards.
  • Plan and execute factory tests and experiments.
  • Evaluate results, write reports, and drive follow-up actions.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to achieve improvement goals.
  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, DOE, and SPC tools to improve performance.

The estimated base salary range for this role is $80,000 to $100,000 per year.
Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors (salary may be adjusted based on geographic location)

What You’ll Do

  • Drive adoption of scientific and engineering principles across the plant
  • Lead cross-functional teams to achieve improvement goals
  • Partner with operators and team leads on hands‑on troubleshooting
  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, DOE, and SPC tools to improve performance

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of process engineering experience in manufacturing
  • Experience with:
    • Minitab
    • Microsoft Access
  • Background in:
    • Lean Manufacturing
    • Six Sigma methodologies
  • Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) certification
  • Experience with:
    • Design of Experiments (DOE)
    • Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Proven ability to:
    • Lead process improvements
    • Drive cost savings and efficiency gains
  • Strong ability to translate technical concepts into practical solutions
