Job summary

IPG in Springfield, OH is seeking a Process Engineer to identify, develop, implement, and document process improvements across the manufacturing floor. You will support Operations, Maintenance, and QA to ensure production and quality standards are met.

The role requires hands-on experience with equipment and processes, and a drive to lead projects while mentoring team members. A bachelor’s degree in engineering and 3–5 years in manufacturing are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a concentration in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing.
  • 3-5 years of documented engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Six Sigma experience as Green or Black Belt is an asset (optional).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop process improvements on the manufacturing floor; document improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Develop and implement production/process methods and controls to meet quality standards cost-effectively; investigate process problems.
  • Provide hands-on technical support for day-to-day operations and troubleshooting.
  • Assist R&D in development and scale-up of new products.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and QA to ensure integration of improvements and quality adherence.
  • Indirectly mentor team members and promote best practices.
  • Lead and participate in technical projects using hands-on expertise.
  • Maintain detailed records and files for all projects.
  • Support maintenance in evaluating equipment problems and modifying equipment as needed.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate work instructions and procedures.

Position Description

Title: Process Engineer

Immediate Supervisor: Plant Engineer & Maintenance Manager

Position Purpose: The Process Engineer is responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, and documenting process improvements in the manufacturing process. They support Operations,

Maintenance, and QA to ensure that all production and quality standards are met. They will indirectly manage a team, as well as have responsibility for all day-to-day technical needs of the department. The position

demands a hands-on, experienced individual capable of working on technical/operational projects that involve a broad range of equipment, materials, and procedural issues.

Principle Accountabilities
  1. Identify and develop process improvements by working directly on the manufacturing floor. Implement and document these improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
  2. Develop and implement production/process methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost-efficient manner. Investigate and provide remedies for manufacturing process problems.
  3. Provide hands‑on technical support for day‑to‑day operations, troubleshooting equipment, and resolving procedural issues.
  4. Assist R&D in the development and scale‑up of new products.
  5. Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and QA teams to ensure seamless integration of process improvements and adherence to quality standards.
  6. Indirectly manage and mentor team members, fostering a collaborative environment and promoting best practices.
  7. Lead and participate in technical and operational projects, applying your hands‑on expertise to drive successful outcomes.
  8. Maintain detailed records and orderly files on all assigned projects.
  9. Assist Maintenance teams to evaluate equipment problems participate in the improvement or modifications of existing equipment.
  10. Develop, implement, and communicate work instructions, procedures, and other documentation as necessary to support work responsibilities.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a concentration in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing
  • 3-5 years of documented Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Extrusion coating experience is an asset
  • Web handling experience preferred
  • Willing to travel (10%)
  • Six Sigma experience as Green or Black Belt is an asset
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
