Job summary

• Serves as technical lead for local site by guiding peers.
• Works with Sales to interface with the customer for new and existing business activities.
• Collaborates with Operations and Sales to deploy engineering solutions and resolve technical issues.
• Proven experience in Kaizen concepts, Lean Manufacturing.

UCT is looking for a talented Process Engineer III to join us inFremont, CA!

The Process Engineer III leads and manages site-level engineering activities, including process development, equipment design, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role provides technical leadership for new product introductions, equipment installations, and yield optimization while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards. The Process Engineer III collaborates with cross-functional teams and customers to deliver innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency and support business growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participates or leads in tactical process development at local site for new capabilities and yield improvement for UCT and its customers.
• Applying the principles of mass, momentum, and heat transfer to process and equipment design, including conceptual, scheme, and detailed design.
• Supporting the conversion of small-scale processes into commercially viable large-scale operations.
• Works with senior staff to develop large NPI projects and new equipment installs by applying their specific customer expertise.
• Serves as technical lead for local site for peers by giving technical guidance and resources for tactical technical problems.
• Work closely with Sales to interface with the customer in support of new and existing business activities.
• Work closely with Operations Site managers and Sales to deploy Engineering solutions including technical problem solving, work instruction issues, and other Engineering activities as needed.
• Proven experience in Kaizen concepts, Lean Manufacturing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Assessing processes for their relevance and assessing the adequacy of engineering equipment.
• Reviewing existing data (also lab analyses) to identify and interpret trends as well as to determine if more research or types of information need to be collected.
• Designing, installing, and commissioning new production units, monitoring modifications and upgrades, and troubleshooting existing processes.
• Preparing reports, flow diagrams and charts.
• Assessing the availability of raw materials and the safety and environmental impact of the plant.
• Managing the cost and time constraints of projects and tasks.
• Working closely with Quality and Operations as well as other Engineers to monitor and improve the efficiency, output, and safety of a plant.
• Ensuring processes work at optimum levels, to the right rate and quality of output, to meet supply needs.
• Ensuring that all aspects of an operation or process meet specified regulations.
• Working closely with other specialists, including scientists responsible for the quality control of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products; Engineers responsible for plant maintenance; commercial colleagues on product specifications and production schedules; and the operating crew.

Educational/Certification Requirement:

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry or Physics.
• Master’s or higher degree, or equivalent post-graduate education in above subjects preferred.

Work Experience Requirements:

• 4+ years related experience in high-technology manufacturing, preferably in semiconductor capital equipment or related industry.

This job is usually performed in a professional office environment, routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other related equipment. The employee will also be expected to be present in the manufacturing areas as required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and manufacturing areas can occasionally be moderate or loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit; climb stairs, maintain balance; employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust optical focus.

Travel Requirements:

• Work may require out of town travel depending upon assignment (training and meeting).
