Job summary

Materion is seeking a Process Engineer III in Buffalo, NY to provide engineering leadership under the Director of Process Engineering. The role focuses on process control, troubleshooting, yield and labor efficiency improvements, product quality, and cycle-time reduction.

You will collaborate with operators, maintenance, quality, and planning teams, and pursue opportunities to automate and scale up processes while supporting product development and margin improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering; advanced degree is a plus.
• 5 - 10 years of process engineering experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Green Belt certification is required or needs to be gained within 2 years from hire date.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully lead technical teams.
• Ability to manage multiple complex assignments / projects.
• Strong written and presentation skills.
• Willingness and eagerness to learn, receive, and provide coaching.
• Demonstrated history of operating with sense of urgency and accountability.

Job description

The Process Engineer III, under the direction of the Director of Process Engineering using established procedures, will provide engineering leadership and guidance in the areas of process control, troubleshooting, cost (yield and labor efficiency) improvement, product quality improvement, cycle time reduction, and product and process development. Additional responsibilities will be investigation and proposal of new production equipment, procedures, and methods to automate, improve and/or scale-up existing processes. The Process Engineer III will work with operators, engineering, maintenance, quality, management, T&I, and production planning to accomplish these tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Safety & Quality Management System: Comply with, support, and provide limited technical input to all EH&S and quality programs, trainings, and policies while operating in a safe, honest, and ethical manner.
• Process Control & Continuous Improvement: Utilizing statistical process control methodologies, oversee the manufacture of quality product by implementing and maintaining process control systems and standard operating procedures. Determine critical process metrics, monitor them on a regular basis, and provide direction in the collection and interpretation of metric data. Provide leadership and support for project teams to troubleshoot process issues and achieve continuous improvements in areas such as safety, quality, throughput, cost, and/or machine reliability. Maintain open and frequent communications with operators and other engineers about equipment status and collaborate on improvement initiatives. Lead and collaborate with other engineers for complaint resolution activities including root cause analysis and corrective and preventative actions for any complaints for the assigned area. When applicable, implement corrective and preventative actions. Provide manufacturing capability information and improvement opportunities to product management teams to improve product margins. Support efforts to identify, prioritize, and determine business impact of strategic and tactical process improvement initiatives.
• Machine Maintenance & Reliability: Possess in-depth knowledge of processing equipment and provide direction for equipment breakdowns and slowdowns to ensure product quality and throughput are maintained.
• Product & Process Development: Work with and provide technical input to T&I to follow the New Product Development process in implementing the manufacturing related sections such as bills of material, process router steps, work instructions and standard operating procedures, and key process variable monitoring, etc.

Travel Requirements

Up to 25% travel may be required based on business need.

Essential Qualifications & Capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

Proven record of working with strategic business teams to support top and / or bottom-line growth. Demonstrated experience in Process Hazard Analysis, Process Safety Management, Capital Requests, and Management of Change.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $92,200.00 - $147,400.00

Actual base salary offered varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
