Responsibilities
Shift: Monday‑Friday
Department: C&P Engineering, Electrode
Job Summary: The Process Engineer II is responsible for process improvement projects focused on defect rate improvement, new material and model introduction, specification validation, overall equipment efficiency, and tasks to improve the cell manufacturing process. Additionally, the Engineer will develop and implement process strategies, manage process resources, and optimize current processes.
- Be part of Panasonic’s Cell and Process Engineering team, continuously improving processes, supporting new model conversion and new line setup, solving chronic production issues, and supporting production to ensure smooth operation.
- Use troubleshooting skills to solve unknown problems through root‑cause identification and effective countermeasure development and implementation.
- Troubleshoot chronic production problems to maintain output levels and reduce defects.
- Work with other engineering teams to coordinate process and machine improvement activities ranging from long‑term projects to reactive countermeasures.
- Make data‑driven decisions and improve data analysis skills.
- Collaborate with engineering/maintenance/quality teams to develop permanent structures and countermeasures for common problems, including productivity, quality, loss, safety, etc.
- Assist in implementing and expanding new countermeasures into production lines.
- Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to ensure product specifications and standards are achieved.
- Apply knowledge to develop standard work instructions, SOPs and troubleshooting guides.
- Implement and support manufacturing industrial automation.
- Other duties may be assigned.
PPE Requirements
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, which may include a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.
Qualifications
Education
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar discipline.
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in any of the listed disciplines.
Essential Qualifications
- 2‑4 years of process engineering or manufacturing engineering experience.
- Experience performing engineering functions and responsibilities in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to train manufacturing operators on new or revised instructions or tooling.
- Flexibility to work between manufacturing floor and office/desk.
- Proficient in machine and process troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis.
- Experience on projects such as scrap reduction, cost improvements, and FTE reduction.
- Strong engineering skills in process development, troubleshooting, data analysis, tolerancing, and MPI’s.
- Effective communication and ability to reach agreement with relevant teams.
- Knowledge of FTA, FMEA, and other failure analysis methods.
- Team‑working skills at all organizational levels, especially with direct labor to develop optimal solutions.
- Self‑starter with strong independent work ethic and focus on team success.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and deliver quality results in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong “get the job done” work ethic and excellent customer service internally and externally.
- Working‑level knowledge of English language (reading, writing, speaking).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with lithium‑ion battery theory or R&D.
- Familiarity with roll‑to‑roll processing techniques.
- Experience with material management and control.
- Knowledge of electrochemistry and ability to apply principles.
- Knowledge of solutions chemistry and application in real world environments.
- Experience with control strategy, PLC, and sensor/actuator relationships.
- Experience with industrial data analysis or Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
- Experience in a high‑volume manufacturing environment (≥1M units per day).
- Familiarity with Six Sigma methodologies and tools.
- Alignment to Panasonic’s seven core principles.
