Job description

Summary

The Process Engineer I supports the optimization of productivity and sustainability of EV battery production by applying technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment. This role helps ensure stable mass production quality and process improvement through recipe setting, specification alignment, process capability management, and defect reduction activities. Working within Cell and Electrode Technology operations, the Process Engineer I partners with engineers, technicians, operators, Quality, and Equipment teams to improve yield, resolve quality issues, and strengthen process documentation and control. This is an entry-level engineering position with development opportunity into more advanced process engineering responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze productivity, yield, and overall equipment efficiency (OEE) for assigned processes and departments
  • Work with engineers and operators to troubleshoot equipment and process conditions to maximize yield and OEE
  • Support specification optimization and establishment of process conditions
  • Support chronic defect improvement activities and process capability management
  • Analyze quality issues and support development of corrective actions
  • Handle non-conformance reports and support improvement activities
  • Support response to internal and external quality issues raised by customers
  • Support production and development model dissemination and 4M change verification
  • Support establishment and revision of Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plans (CP), and Process Flow Manuals
  • Improve production processes by creating and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Train operators on process procedures to ensure understanding and correct implementation on the production floor
  • Support internal and customer audits
  • Comply with all health, safety, environmental, and fire regulations
  • Follow established work instructions, standard operating procedures, and company policies
  • Participate in and successfully complete all required training programs
  • Maintain regular and reliable on-site attendance
  • Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain; Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Master's degree preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
Experience
  • 1+ years of experience in production technology or a related manufacturing engineering role preferred
  • Internship, co-op, or equivalent hands-on experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment may be considered in lieu of full-time experience
  • Experience with yield analysis, OEE metrics, or process improvement activities preferred
  • Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, or process documentation preferred
  • Knowledge of battery manufacturing processes is a plus

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to properly and regularly utilize the following PPE for periods of up to 12 hours: safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, nitrile gloves, ear protection, and cleanroom suit
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift, push, and pull materials or equipment for periods of up to 12 hours
  • Must be able to repeatedly stoop, twist, and bend for periods of up to 12 hours
  • Must be able to repeatedly reach overhead for periods of up to 12 hours
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and computer systems
Work Environment
  • Work is performed within a manufacturing facility, including production, clean room, laboratory, and office areas
  • Work may involve handling or working in proximity to hazardous materials and regulated industrial chemicals
  • Exposure to chemical vapors, dust, or other controlled substances may occur depending on process assignment
  • Strict adherence to company safety policies and OSHA Hazard Communication requirements is mandatory
  • Employees must properly wear and maintain assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times within designated areas
  • Required PPE may include respirators, chemical-resistant garments, gloves, eye protection, face shields, or other equipment determined by process and risk assessment
