Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day production in 24/7 Back-End Assembly operations.
  • Conduct SPC monitoring, data analysis and root-cause investigations.
  • Drive use of problem-solving methodologies (FMEA, SPC, QFD, DOE).
  • Collaborate with Failure Analysis, development and manufacturing teams on improvements.
  • Develop and update process documentation and training for operators.
  • Manage tooling design, automation, and project scopes within area of expertise.

Position Summary

Process Engineer‑I will play a key role in sustaining and supporting the existing 24/7 Back‑End Assembly production, driving continuous improvement to support quality, cost and delivery goals, as well as supporting next‑generation product development and various R&D projects. This role will utilize engineering and statistical approaches to perform problem solving, process optimization and identify key parameters for the process.

Essential Job Functions
  • Support day‑to‑day production, interacting with supervisors, technicians, operators, and other engineers to dispose of lots, identify faulty tools, provide technical support, and correct processing errors.
  • Continuous process monitoring (SPC, yield), including data analysis, identifying trends, finding root causes on excursions and finding solutions to correct the problem and improve the process.
  • Drive use of problem‑solving methodologies (e.g. FMEA, SPC, Control Plans, QFD and Design of Experiments) across the manufacturing community.
  • Work with the Failure Analysis group to analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.
  • Prepare and update process documentation and provide operator training and qualification.
  • Work closely with development engineering and manufacturing to drive process improvements for Assembly Operations for improvement in yield, output, cost and safety.
  • Manage the automation of current and new manufacturing processes, including outsource management of tooling and fixture design, development and build; and coordination with internal resources on tooling and fixture design and development.
  • Work with manufacturing, process development, facilities, and quality assurance groups in developing requirements and recommendations for system modifications.
  • Develop project scopes, plan and manage the projects, including schedules and budgets within the area of expertise.
  • Facilitate problem‑solving and brainstorming activities and participate in and support cross‑functional teams.
  • Monitor material performance and evaluate material performance/fit for use.
  • Support new product development and make recommendations for material selection and process requirements for assembly processes.
  • Maintain good interpersonal skills, including working with cross‑functional teams, production staff, supervisors, peers, and management.
  • Be self‑aware, capable of integrative thinking, results‑oriented, mentor others, and willing to make changes.
  • Communicate effectively, producing clear data, presentations, and reports, as well as oral presentations.
Qualifications

Required:

  • BS in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or a related field.
  • 2 or more years’ experience with high‑precision assembly/manufacturing, including extensive experience with process automation.
  • Hands‑on experience and an engineering approach with SPC knowledge.
  • On‑site presence required.
  • Organizational skills to track and coordinate multiple concurrent projects.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with production technicians, supervisors, other engineers, and management.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including presentations, reports, and process documentation.
  • Ability to leverage and delegate responsibility when managing capable professionals.
  • Strong problem‑identification and problem‑solving skills.

Desired:

  • Experience in dispense systems, such as Asymtek/Nordson dispense system.
  • Experience in pick‑and‑place tools, e.g. Datacon.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis software, such as JMP, Minitab.
Physical Demands
  • Standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, and talking or hearing for up to one‑third of the time.
  • Sitting for one‑third to two‑thirds of the time.
Work Environment
  • Normal office environment; business‑casual dress is the default.
  • Works in manufacturing, clean room, and engineering lab environments (at least 60% in cleanroom).
  • Moderate noise (e.g. business office computers and printers, light traffic).
  • May handle hazardous waste in accordance with safe work practices defined in Hazardous Communication and Hazardous Waste training programs. Initial training is required upon hiring and every three years thereafter. Employees handling hazardous waste must ensure waste containers are properly labeled and closed after transfer, and report any incidents to a supervisor.
