Position Summary

The Application & Process Engineer is responsible for defining, validating, and optimizing the technical solutions that enable the company’s thickening and dewatering equipment to deliver consistent, high-performance results. This role supports the Sales team by evaluating customer applications, developing engineered solutions, supporting pilot programs, and participating in technical presentations. It also supports Operations by providing process optimization, commissioning guidance, and troubleshooting expertise at customer sites.

This is a hands‑on engineering role requiring strong analytical capabilities, practical field understanding, and the ability to translate process data into actionable solutions for both municipal and industrial customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate customer sludge characteristics, hydraulic conditions, and process requirements.
  • Determine the appropriate equipment.
  • Develop application‑specific performance expectations, operating envelopes, polymer strategies, throughput, and solids targets.
  • Prepare engineered solution packages and technical narratives for Sales opportunities.
Sales & Business Development Support
  • Partner with Regional Sales Managers to conduct technical discovery, site evaluations, and customer meetings.
  • Provide technical content for proposals, presentations, RFQs, and pilot testing programs.
  • Communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to non‑technical customers.
  • Assist Sales in positioning solutions through data‑driven recommendations and case studies.
  • Support Operations during equipment startup by validating operating parameters and process assumptions.
  • Establish optimum polymer dosing parameters, flow conditions, pressure settings, and control logic inputs.
  • Document commissioning results and provide performance summaries to Operations, Sales, and customers.
Troubleshooting & Customer Process Support
  • Diagnose and resolve upstream wastewater treatment issues impacting thickening or dewatering performance.
  • Evaluate polymer performance, sludge quality changes, digester issues, aeration/process variations, and hydraulic disruptions.
  • Provide clear recommendations to restore expected performance and stabilize operations.
  • Serve as a technical resource during customer escalations or performance reviews.
  • Design and execute pilot trials to validate equipment performance at customer locations.
  • Conduct polymer screening, sludge testing, and data collection.
  • Analyze results and prepare detailed pilot reports, performance summaries, and ROI models.
  • Support Sales in presenting pilot findings to customers and decision makers.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • With Operations & Asset Performance
  • Provide guidance for commissioning, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure equipment operates within engineered limits and performance expectations.
  • With EIC Engineering
  • Align process requirements with PLC logic, sensor selection, instrumentation needs, and automation sequences.
  • With Manufacturing & Product Engineering
  • Provide feedback from field performance to support product improvements, standardization, and component selection.
  • With CAD Manager
  • Ensure installation drawings, diagrams, and technical documents reflect correct process requirements and design intent.
Documentation, Reporting & Standards Development
  • Prepare application reports, commissioning documents, optimization reports, and performance summaries.
  • Develop SOPs, best‑practice guides, and technical bulletins for internal and customer use.
  • Maintain knowledge libraries and application datasets to improve future engineering predictability.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, polymer efficiency, throughput, and capture performance.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering tools, models, and standardized playbooks.
  • Provide field data and structured recommendations to influence product roadmap discussions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Degree + relevant experience will be considered.
  • 2-7 years of experience in wastewater treatment, industrial process engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with sludge thickening/dewatering equipment, polymer chemistry, or solids handling preferred.
  • Ability to analyze process data, troubleshoot operational problems, and recommend solutions.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to present technical concepts to customers and internal teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with CAD, SCADA, or modeling tools is a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 50–70% to customer sites, pilot trials, and internal meetings.
Core Competencies
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer‑centric mindset with ability to build trust
  • Ability to work independently and cross‑functionally
  • Adaptability to changing customer needs and field conditions
  • Hands‑on approach with willingness to work in field environments
  • Structured documentation and reporting skills
  • Combination of office/lab, remote, and field work at municipal and industrial wastewater facilities.
  • Exposure to pumping systems, rotating equipment, industrial environments, and wastewater conditions (PPE provided).
  • Travel required for commissioning, troubleshooting, pilot testing, and customer support.
  • High‑impact engineering role with direct influence on customer success and business growth.
  • Opportunity to engage with advanced water/wastewater technologies and diverse applications.
  • Cross‑functional visibility with Sales, Operations, Manufacturing, and global engineering teams.
