Job summary

Graham Packaging is seeking a hands on Process Engineer to apply extrusion blow molding science to create stable, repeatable manufacturing processes. You will diagnose machine issues, perform problem solving, and support new product development across Graham's plants.

This role reports to the Global Technical Center in York, PA and can be done remotely. The position requires strong blow molding knowledge, data analysis, and solid communication skills to drive continuous improvement and SOP

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering preferred and manufacturing experience required.
  • Hands-on setting up, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting extrusion blow molders.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with process documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop production processes and generate SOCs.
  • Optimize processes and establish operating limits for key variables.
  • Create SOPs for process control and equipment setup.
  • Provide training and audit SOPs.
  • Drive continuous improvement in process engineering standard work.
  • Lead problem solving and support process validation during commissioning.
  • Train plant personnel on machine setup and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical reports with recommendations on mold tooling and bottle design.

Graham Packaging is seeking a hands on Process Engineer to apply the science of extrusion blow molding to implement stable, repeatable and capable manufacturing processes. This individual will be also responsible for diagnosing machine and process issues and applying problem solving processes across Graham network of plants. He or she will play a critical role in new product development. This position reports into Graham Packaging's Global Technical Center in York, PA but can work remotely.

The primary duties of an Extrusion Blow Molding Process Engineer include:

  • Develop production processes as part of the commercialization of new products and generate process documentation in the form of Standard Operating Conditions (SOCs)
  • Optimize production processes and establish operational limits to key process variables
  • Create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for process control and equipment setup.
  • Provide training and auditing of SOP’s
  • Drive continuous improvement in process engineering standard work, SOPs and tools to support process development
  • Process unit cavity molds as part of the development process
  • Lead problem solving activities and apply technically robust solutions
  • Provide support for process validation during equipment commissioning
  • Train skilled plant personnel and other technical specialists on machine set-up and corrective actions
  • Provide written technical reports to peers, management, vendors and customers including recommendations to improve; machine, mold and tooling and bottle design

The following skills and proficiencies are essential requirements of the position:

  • Strong understanding of the properties of blow molding resins and other raw materials
  • Strong processing skills for monolayer, multilayer, single parison and multiple parison bottles
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills of blow molding equipment
  • Strong understanding of 1 to 2 different type blowmolding platforms as well as basic understanding of an additional 2
  • Able to apply knowledge of statistics, data analysis and statistical process control
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to apply knowledge of PDCA and effective problem solving
  • Travel 50%

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience setting up, operating, maintaining, rebuilding and troubleshooting extrusion blow molders (CE, Graham Wheel, Techne shuttles, Techne Rotax, Uniloy, VR, Wilmington).

The standard compensation for this role is $81,500 - $122,300. Salary offers will be determined based on final candidate qualifications, experience, skillset, and other relevant factors.

The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience.
