Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. is seeking a Process Engineer to develop processes, controls, and variability reduction across manufacturing areas. The role involves daily floor audits, updating procedures for clarity, and analyzing data to control process excursions.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's in Mechanical/Metallurgical/Materials and hands-on experience in airfoil investment casting. Familiarity with PFMEA, Control Plan, and process control is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Materials or equivalent experience is required.
  • Hands-on experience in the airfoils investment casting industry is a plus.
  • Familiarity with PFMEA, Control Plan and Process control is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Develop processes, define controls, and institute variability reduction in manufacturing.
  • Perform daily audits to ensure procedures are followed on the floor.
  • Update procedures to reduce variation and improve clarity.
  • Analyze data to identify and control process excursions.
  • Continuously improve processes to maintain yields and reduce scrap.
  • Conduct engineering trials to evaluate improvements to processes, tools, and equipment.
  • Participate in cost reduction, continuous improvement and NPI teams.
  • Lead process and improvement initiatives across manufacturing.
  • Interface with all levels of manufacturing, suppliers and customers.

Job description

The Process Engineer position is responsible for engineering activities to develop processes, define controls, and institute effective variability reduction efforts in manufacturing areas.

Essential Functions
  • Develop processes, define controls, and institute effective variability reduction efforts in manufacturing areas
  • Perform daily audits to ensure procedures are being followed on the manufacturing floor
  • Update/revise area procedures to ensure clarity and reduce the opportunity for process variation
  • Perform data analysis to identify and control process excursions
  • Continuously evaluations/improves processes in order to maintain or improve upon budgeted yields.
  • Perform engineering trials to evaluate improvements to processes, tools, and equipment
  • Participates in cost reduction, continuous improvement and new part introduction (NPI) teams, as needed
  • Drive process and improvement initiatives
  • Continuously improves processes to reduce scrap
  • Initiate and interface with all levels of manufacturing, management, suppliers and customers.
  • Provide hands on, floor level investigations and problem solving
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Working knowledge of a Zero Defect Program: PFMEA, Control Plan, Process control
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations and priorities.
  • The ability to handle high stress associated with high activity with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Desired Skills
  • Highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
  • Six sigma Certification preferred
  • Familiarity with Minitab and JMP software
  • Proven experience in Manufacturing Industry.
Experience & Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Materials or other equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience in the airfoils investment casting industry a plus
