Job summary

RHI Magnesita in Greensboro, NC is seeking a Process Engineer to optimize manufacturing processes, improve safety, quality, productivity, and reliability while supporting capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

This on-site role requires 50% travel to the plants it supports and involves partnering with cross-functional teams to drive Lean and Six Sigma initiatives, develop SOPs, and implement new technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related engineering discipline preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in process engineering, manufacturing, or continuous improvement within an industrial environment.
• Experience applying Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies; Green Belt certification preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to use data to drive process improvements and operational decisions.
• Knowledge of process optimization, root cause analysis, process control, and manufacturing best practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across multiple functions and levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Champion process and personnel safety by supporting regulatory compliance and fostering a culture of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) excellence.
• Review, develop, update, and maintain manufacturing processes, procedures, and standard operating practices (SOPs).
• Serve as a technical subject matter expert for plant processes, driving improvements in productivity, quality, reliability, and cost performance.
• Lead process optimization initiatives to improve throughput, reduce variability, and enhance operational efficiency.
• Analyze production and process data to identify trends, root causes, bottlenecks, and opportunities for optimization, then implement sustainable solutions.
• Partner with operations, maintenance, quality, R&D, technical marketing, and other stakeholders to support business objectives and customer requirements.
• Support the implementation of new technologies, automation solutions, and digital tools that strengthen manufacturing performance.
• Train and coach production personnel on process best practices, operational standards, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean and Six Sigma principles to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance.
• Evaluate capital investment opportunities, develop business cases, and support project execution from concept through startup.
• Participate in engineering projects, ensuring deliverables such as process documentation, specifications, risk assessments, commissioning plans, and startup support are completed successfully.
• Develop, maintain, and support Management of Change (MOC) processes to ensure safe and effective implementation of process modifications.
