Job summary

Commercial Metals Company is seeking a Process Control Technician for our Recycling operations in Seguin, TX. You will install, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical control systems, PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and instrumentation to keep recycling processes running reliably.

You’ll work 12-hour shifts, handle preventive maintenance, maintain manuals and logs, and collaborate with a safety-conscious team to meet production goals and uphold quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience with electrical relay control maintenance and repair for cranes.
  • Extensive experience in maintenance of electrical control and distribution systems.
  • Experience with PLCs and instrumentation; able to navigate block logic and ladder logic interfaces.
  • Experience with SAP and MRO systems preferred.
  • Ability to work in a heavy industrial environment and cross-train.

Responsibilities

  • Install, monitor, inspect, troubleshoot, and ensure reliability of electrical and control systems and equipment.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair or replacement of defective parts.
  • Procure supplies and spare parts for maintenance.
  • Maintain manuals, drawings, schematics and maintenance logs.
  • Learn and maintain electromechanical starters, motors, VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, and controllers.

What You’ll Do
  • Install, monitor, inspect, troubleshoot, and ensure reliability of all electrical, electronic control systems and components, process equipment, and AC/DC utilities

  • Learn and maintain the variety of electromechanical starters and motors using sophisticated electronic interface boards, VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, and controllers
  • Procure supplies and spare parts to ensure effective and timely maintenance of equipment
  • Maintain and revise instruction manuals, drawings, schematics, maintenance logs, and other documentation, as required
  • Install, monitor, inspect, troubleshoot, and ensure reliability of all electrical, electronic control systems and components, process equipment, and AC/DC utilities
  • Learn and maintain the variety of electromechanical starters and motors using sophisticated electronic interface boards, VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, and controllers
  • Maintain and revise instruction manuals, drawings, schematics, maintenance logs, and other documentation, asrequired
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair or replacement of defective and damaged parts
  • Procure supplies and spare parts to ensure effective and timely maintenance of equipment
What You’ll Need
  • Experience with Electrical relay control maintenance and repair proficiency, especially for cranes
  • Extensive experience in maintenance of electrical control and distribution systems and analog and digital circuits
  • Extensive experience in maintenance of relay and ladder logic, industrial communications networks, instrumentation and automation control systems
  • Experience or formal education and lab training on PLCs, or the ability to navigate block logic, ladder logic, or other digital logic interfaces
  • Experience with MRO system, SAP system preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing equipment processes and working knowledge of associated controls
  • Training and/or experience in instrument and sensor calibration
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic circuit components
  • Competent in the use of hand tools as well as electrical and electronic test equipment
  • Experience in a heavy industrial environment is preferred, but not required
  • Experience with industrial electrical repairs including troubleshooting and repair of electrical valves and switches
  • Experience with industrial electrical repairs including troubleshooting and repair of A/C - D/C drives and motors, PLC's and 480 Volt 3 phase electrical
  • Possess specific knowledge of both hydraulic and electrical systems and equipment
  • Must be able to read technical documents and manuals and write job instructional training documents
  • Must be able to work effectively with others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner
  • Must practice safe working habits and follow OSHA, EPA, and company safety policies, rules, and regulations
  • Must be able to work overtime and cross train as required
  • Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold temperatures
  • Strong communication skills are required. Must read, speak, and understand English language in verbal and written communication
  • Experience or formal education and lab training on PLCs and instrumentation
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour shift, which includes overtime, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to push and pull up to 90 lbs., carry 50 lbs., and climb ladder and steps
  • Knowledge of both hydraulic and electrical systems and equipment
  • Ability to work with exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust fumes, and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces
Your Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Graduate of an instrumentation, electronics or mechatronics program from a recognized trade school preferred
