Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking an automation technician to support maintenance and repair of automation systems at Morenci, AZ. You will handle diagnostics, installation, and programming of DCS, HMI, PLC, and related equipment in a heavy industrial setting.

Responsibilities include interfacing with engineers and operations, performing system maintenance, and adhering to safety and environmental standards while working a rotating schedule and potential extended hours.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved Certified Electronics, Electrical and/or Instrumentation program.
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Electrical and/or Instrumentation repair and maintenance.
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications and networking.
• Strong technical knowledge in electronic communications interfaces and protocols.
• Ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals, prints, and schematics for trouble shooting and repair.
• Valid State Driver's License.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime as business needs dictate.

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

Description

Work with limited supervision to provide technical knowledge and guidance assisting with maintenance and repair of automation systems and associated circuitry. Provides installation, diagnostics, repair and programming of industrial automation systems and equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred

• High School diploma or GED
• Associates of Applied Science degree in a technical field
• HMI/PLC and/or DCS programming and troubleshooting experience
• Understanding of networking fundamentals
• Understanding of historical data collection systems

Criteria/Conditions

• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
• Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
• Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
• Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday
• May be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime as business needs dictate
• Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently$30.00 - $47.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
