Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in Bagdad, AZ, is seeking an experienced Process Automation Engineer to lead and support control system projects in a mining environment. You will apply ICS cybersecurity practices, design and verify automation solutions, and help optimize plant performance.

You’ll work with Emerson DeltaV and Rockwell PLCs, manage hardware and software life cycles, and collaborate with operations to improve safety, reliability and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 7 years in Process Automation engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of relevant Process Automation experience.
• Master’s degree with 2 years of relevant Process Automation experience.
• Preferred: DeltaV and PLC experience, SCADA/DCS experience, and related certifications.

Responsibilities

• Promotes safety and environmental programs and communicates safety implications for Process Automation (PA) and ICS cybersecurity.
• Directs Process Automation engineering topics and projects.
• Develops engineering proposals and designs, and verifies project work meets standards.
• Maintains IC hardware/software and seeks process improvements through automation.
• Participates in PCN implementation while maintaining plant performance and cyber security.
• Reviews specialized instrumentation solutions for integration into the IC system.
• Manages life-cycle of Process Automation equipment and budgets.

Description

• Follows and promotes Freeport‑McMoRan safety and environmental programs and practices, communicates safety implications related to Process Automation (PA) and directs Industrial Control System (ICS) cybersecurity practices and policies.
• Gives directions on Process Automation engineering topics and projects.
• Develops and participates in engineering project proposals, and engineering designs, and has ability to verify the quality of project work meets site Process Automation standards.
• Maintains the performance of IC‑hardware and software. Participates in identifying opportunities to implement process improvement and optimization through automation while improving Operator and Operations effectiveness.
• Participates in the implementation and maintenance of the Process Control Network (PCN) while maintaining plant performance, cyber security, and plant historian systems.
• Specifies and reviews specialized, analytical and advanced instrumentation solutions to be integrated into the site IC‑system.
• Participates in Process Automation equipment life cycle management and develops plans, proposals, and budgetary estimates to ensure equipment remains current and up to date.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED and seven (7) years of Engineering experience relevant to Process Automation, OR
• Bachelor’s degree in a Scientific discipline and three (3) years of Engineering experience relevant to Process Automation, OR
• Master’s degree in a Scientific discipline and two (2) years of Engineering experience relevant to Process Automation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Emerson DeltaV and Rockwell PLC experience
• PLC, HMI, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and/or Distributed Control Systems (DCS) manufacture training or certification
• Experience with plant process historians or similar database storage and retrieval systems
• Experience with IC/PCN network architecture, communication and security
• Experience in or understanding of mining and mineral processing and systems
• Familiarity with or training in NFPA 70 and NEC or Electrical Journeyman Training

Criteria/Conditions

• Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel‑toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
• Freeport‑McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol‑free work environment through the use of mandatory pre‑employment drug testing and on‑going random drug testing as allowed by applicable state laws.

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $93,000-$127,500. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job‑related factors.
