Job summary

Quest Diagnostics Incorporated in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a Problem Resolution Specimen Technician on a Monday to Friday night shift, with potential weekend rotations. You will resolve specimen processing issues, collaborate with processing, referral testing, and technical departments, and ensure timely testing and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year in Specimen TechIII or related role for internal candidates.
  • Minimum of 3 years lab experience, preferably in a production environment.
  • Laboratory experience with strong Specimen Processing background preferred.
  • Medical background preferred with terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary point-of-contact for resolution of common specimen problems and communicate with internal departments to avoid testing delays or service failures.
  • May contact clients to obtain resolution of problems.
  • Demonstrate competency in Specimen Processing problem-resolution duties and SOPs.
  • Interpret specimen tracking data using available resources (logs, LIS, front-end automation, instrumentation).
  • Understand compliance policies related to test ordering, reporting, add-on tests, reflex tests and custom panels.
  • Assist with priority handling of samples with limited stability and issues impacting client and patient care.
  • Retrieve specimens from storage, assess sample adequacy, research test ordering information, and stability requirements.
  • Enter TIQs/TNPs accurately.
  • Process, document, and review mislabeled/unlabeled specimens.
  • Identify and escalate trending problems to management.
  • Maintain working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Job Description

Problem Resolution Specimen Technician - Pittsburgh, PA, Monday to Friday, 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM, with rotational weekends


This position actively works to identify and solve issues in regards to processing and testing laboratory specimens and has complete proficiency in all Specimen TechIII jobduties, ProblemResolutionTechs collaborate with Specimen Processing, Referral Testing, and Technical departments to research and resolve issues in order to expedite specimen testing and result reporting.


Pay range: Minimum of $22.25+ per hour; employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended.


Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities


  • Primary point‑of‑contact for resolution of common specimen problems and communication with internal departments to avoid testing delays and/orservicefailures

  • May be responsible for calling clients to obtain resolution ofproblems

  • Demonstrates competency of job duties and SOP'srelated to Specimen Processing problemresolution

  • Demonstrates ability to interpret specimen tracking data utilizing all available resources (e.g.specimen logs, laboratory information systems, front-end automation, instrumentation, etc.)

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the compliance policies relating to test ordering, test reporting, add‑on tests, TNP's,reflex tests and custompanels

  • Supports and/or provides priority handling of samples with limited stability and problems impacting client and patientcare

  • Demonstrates ability to correctly and efficiently retrieve specimens from storage, investigate sample adequacy, research test ordering information, specimen requirements andstability

  • Responsible for correctly entering TIQs/TNPs

  • Responsible for correctly processing, documenting, and reviewing mislabeled and unlabeledspecimens

  • Identifies and escalates trending problems to department management as appropriate.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

Internal candidateswill need a minimum of one year in Specimen TechIII/related role.


Preferred Work Experience


  • Minimum of 3 years Lab experience preferably in a production environment

  • Medical background preferred which includes medicalterminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
