Job summary

Montana Department of Corrections seeks a Probation & Parole Sergeant in Great Falls. The role supports public safety, accountability, and offender rehabilitation, guiding staff to positive outcomes for Montana communities.

As a supervisor, you’ll manage probation and parole teams, oversee investigations, conduct hearings, and coordinate program operations. Travel and on-call duties are required to meet 24/7 public safety needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and 3 years of Probation and Parole experience.
• Equivalent work experience may substitute the educational requirement.
• All present employees are exempt from this requirement but are encouraged to further their education.

Responsibilities

• Arrest, detain violators and testify in district court hearings relative to sentencing or revocation of probation or parole status.
• Oversee staff and provide guidance, coaching and discipline to ensure professional growth.
• Conduct regular case management audits and coordinate efforts with other agencies as needed.
• Coordinate and supervise transfer of in-state offenders and travel as required.
