Job summary

Cumberland County, PA is seeking an Adult Probation Officer to enforce and support the court-ordered supervision program. You will conduct field investigations, manage risk assessments, and coordinate with victims and community resources to ensure public safety and successful offender rehabilitation.

The role emphasizes evidence-based practices, accountability, and developing competencies to promote responsible community participation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 18 credits in the behavioral or social sciences.
• Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
• Must complete 40 hours of annual professional development.
• Background checks required (state and FBI).

Responsibilities

• Conducts interviews and investigations with offenders, family, victims and others in field or office.
• Administers and interprets screening instruments such as ORAS and other tools.
• Prepares reports and court recommendations based on interviews and assessments.
• Develops a supervision plan and case plan balancing community needs, victims, and supervisees.
• Provides supervision and interventions based on probation conditions and court orders.
• Respects victims’ rights per policy and law.
• Collaborates with families and community resources for plan execution.
• Delivers cognitive behavioral and skill-building interventions as trained.
• Makes referrals to community services and monitors progress.
• Uses graduated sanctions to support desired behavior and accountability.
• Takes into custody/detains supervisees as required by risk and court.
• Makes referrals to residential services and monitors progress
• Maintains detailed records of progress and compliance with case plan.
