Job summary

Marion Superior Court is seeking a Probation Officer to serve as an Officer of the Court, assigned to a unit based on departmental needs including casework, presentence investigations, intake and court team duties.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree, with internships in probation helpful and a certification examination to be passed within six months. Bilingual skills in Spanish, ASL, Burmese or other languages are beneficial and may include a salary enhancement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Previous internship in probation helpful.
  • Must pass Probation Officers' Certification Examination within six months.
  • Other certificates and training may be required to serve in other assignments within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes and administers the Indiana Risk Assessment System.
  • Maintains communication with clients, legal representatives, treatment providers, placement agencies and other concerned persons.
  • Reviews documents pertaining to legal and social history of clients.
  • Completes court paperwork and correspondence as required.
  • Testifies in court and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Conducts interviews with clients to inform them of legal requirements of supervision.
  • Conducts field visits in compliance with Marion Superior Court standards.
  • Maintains collaboration between counselors, treatment agencies, public services agencies, placement agencies, etc.
  • Adheres to all Policies & Procedures of the Marion Superior Court.
  • Serves in other capacities as directed by the Chief Probation Officer.

Summary

Examples of duties
  • Utilizes and administers the Indiana Risk Assessment System.
  • Maintains appropriate communication with clients, legal representatives, treatment providers, placement agencies and other concerned persons.

  • Completes court paperwork and correspondence as required.
  • Testifies in court and makes appropriate recommendations.

  • Conducts field visits in compliance with the Indiana Office of Court Services contact standard requirements.
  • Maintains collaboration between counselors, treatment agencies, public services agencies, placement agencies etc. as required.
  • Adheres to all Policies & Procedures of the Marion Superior Court.
  • Serves in other capacities and assignments as requested, required and/or directed by the Chief Probation Officer, while always adhering to the department’s overall “team” philosophy and practice.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree required.
  • Previous internship in probation helpful.
  • Required to pass the Probation Officers' Certification Examination for Indiana within six months of employment as a probation officer. Other certificates and training may be required to in order to serve in other assignments within the department.
