Job summary

Kaizen Lab Inc. seeks an Operating Room Surgical Technician (Scrub Tech) to support the OR clinical operations team. The role focuses on aseptic technique, instrument handling, and patient safety in the surgical setting.

You will scrub in, set up sterile supplies, and assist the surgical team before, during, and after procedures, while maintaining a sterile field and complying with safety standards. This position requires stamina and meticulous attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED; scrub technician course completed.
  • 2 years of scrub technician experience preferred.
  • Maintains strong organizational, communication, and stress-management skills.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in aseptic techniques and basic OR set-ups.
  • Prepare operating room by opening sterile supplies.
  • Scrub, gown, and glove surgical team members.
  • Prepare, transport, and monitor patients during procedures.
  • Maintain sterile field throughout procedures.

Job description

POSITION: OperatingRoom Surgical Technician (Scrub Tech)

DEPARTMENT: OR –Operating Room Clinical Operations

SUMMARY: The primary responsibility ofthis position is to assist in providing nursing care of the surgical patient inthe OR suite.

I. POSITIONDUTIES

A.To utilize specialized knowledge of surgical techniqueswhile giving direct and indirect patient care.

1.Demonstrates and adheres to principles of aseptictechniques.

2.Knowledgeable of all basic set-ups for surgicalprocedures.

3.Assists in ensuring patient safety.

B.To perform the tasks of the “scrub” role.

1.Preoperative duties alsoinclude assembling, adjusting, and checking nonsterile equipment to ensure thatit is in proper working order

2.Prepares the operating roomby selecting and opening sterile supplies

3.Scrubs, gowns, and gloves members of surgical teamfollowing aseptic techniques.

4.Assists in set up of operating room with all necessaryequipment and supplies.

5.Assists with the preparation, transportation, andmonitoring of patients.

6.Arranges instruments according to routine for givenprocedure.

7.Handles instruments according to routine for givenprocedure.

8.Maintains sterile field throughout the surgicalprocedure.

9.Performs room clean up following procedures, as well asgeneral housekeeping duties.

10.Provides assistance in emergency situations asdirected.

11.Functions in the role of second assistant followingsuccessful skills demonstration.

12.Is knowledgeable and competent to perform those dutiesassociated with central sterile supply including but not limited to initialcleaning, sterilization, autoclave, and wrapping instruments/ sets

C.To function efficiently as a member of the surgicalteam.

1.Provides assistance to team members, physicians, andanesthesia personnel as needed (i.e. reliability, initiative, work relations,training needs).

2.Reviews physicians’ preference cards and updates asneeded.

3.Assists with stocking, preparation, and wastemanagement of supplies.

4.Performs other related duties as assigned.

D.To support quality activities.

1.Develop communication skills and promote departmentalrelationships to ensure continuity of care.

2.Participates in on-going committees and othereducational programs to enhance patient care.

3.Maintains current CPR certification.

A. Immediate Supervisor: Chief Nursing Officerand/ or Nurse Manager

A. Internal: Staff in ClinicalOperations and Business Office

B. External: Physicians, Allied HealthProfessionals, Patients and Families, Representatives of Medical Industry.

IV.
POSITIONCHARACTERISTICS

It is necessaryto perform some overtime beyond regularly scheduled work hours to providepatient care. Additionally, some on-callduty may be required. Because of thenature of procedures in the O.R., this job can be stressful and hectic.

V.
POSITIONREQUIREMENTS

Physical andmental – 80% walking, standing, pushing, pulling, required to movepatients. Potential exists for exposureto blood and body fluids as well as other hazardous materials. Personal protective equipment should beutilized as needed. Must have aknowledge of operating room techniques; possess strong organization skills andflexibility; present good communication skills; present a professional image;and be able to handle periods of stress.

VI.
POSITIONSPECIFICATIONS

The ScrubTechnician must be a High School graduate or have completed a GED course. In addition, successful completion of Scrubtechnician course and 2 years' experience is preferred. The successful candidate must have theability to work independentlyas well as function within a team; have a basic knowledge of surgicaltechnique; assist in providing care for the surgical patient; and must possessthe ability to handle stress.
