Mercy Hospital’s 5BOrthopaedicUnit cares for plannedorthopaedicpost‑op surgical patients (hip and knee replacements, spine, and neck surgeries),orthopaedicinjuries (falls and car accidents), and trauma patients thatdon’trequire critical care or are ready to come out of the ICU (gunshots, wounds, stabbings, car accidents, and traumatic falls). This collaborative unit works withOrthopaedicSurgeons, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Physical Therapists, OccupationalTherapistsand the trauma team. 5B is known for their community outreach for various donation drives throughout the year and their phenomenal caregiver retention, as there are alot of experienced caregivers who have been here for 8+ years.

By joining the 5Bteam as an RN, you willassistfellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care, frominitialintroduction to final send-off. In this role, you will interact directly with patients,familiesand visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare education as needed. Additionally, the Cleveland Clinic system provides nurses with many professional development resources, including furthering education and online/in‑person courses to enhance your skills.

APRN caregiver in this position works variable nights and hours, including weekends and holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing(Diploma,ADNor BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Cross
  • External applicants: two years of recent related nursing experience
  • Internal applicants: with less than two years’ experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period, could be considered with the Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval
  • Will consider military RN experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
