Job summary

HCA Healthcare's Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse for the Emergency Brookside unit. The RN will coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in collaboration with providers and the care team, using established nursing models and a strong commitment to excellent patient outcomes.

The role emphasizes pain management, prompt documentation, patient education, and proactive response to patient needs.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in good standing in the appropriate state
• BLS certification obtained within 30 days of start date
• RN Diploma to be completed within 1 year of start date
• EM Nurse Pediatric Course or PALS certification within 1 year
• ACLS certification or ACLS instructor status within 6 months
• TNCC or Trauma Nursing Core Course within 1 year

Responsibilities

• Assess patient pain regularly and promote effective pain management with reassessments after interventions
• Perform procedures and document care in the medical record promptly
• Respond promptly to patient requests and anticipate needs
• Educate patients and families about medical conditions, status, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures
• Provide instruction on non-medicinal follow-up measures and support self-management

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.

• Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.

• Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.

• Performs exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.

• Teaches patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.

• Teaches patients/families/caregivers about any non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management.

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

• (RN) Registered Nurse

• Registered Nurse Diploma must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date

• Emergency Nurse Pediatric Cour, or PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date

• Advanced Cardiac Life Spt, or ACLS Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date

• Advanced Trauma Care for Nurse, or Trauma Nursing Core Course must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
