Job summary

Burke’s Mental Health Emergency Center in Lufkin, TX is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse to join a multidisciplinary team providing nursing care to acutely mentally ill adults. The facility operates 24/7, with 12-hour shifts, and the RN will assist with admissions, assessments and medication administration.

Under physician direction, you will coordinate psychiatric and emergency healthcare needs, maintain documentation, supervise staff as assigned and participate in call rotations.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Texas license as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Valid Texas driver's license and insurability.
• Ability to complete SAMA, CPR and First Aid training.

Responsibilities

• Administer injections and oral medications.
• Complete admission assessments and other required nursing assessments.
• Complete medication consents.
• Respond to inquiry calls from the community regarding potential admissions.
• Review medical records to determine appropriateness for admission.
• Coordinate psychiatric assessments using telehealth equipment.
• Coordinate emergency healthcare needs with other medical care providers.
• Maintain constructive working relationships with community stakeholders.
• Complete required nursing documentation accurately and timely.
• Supervise LVN staff and Mental Health Specialist staff as assigned.
• Participate in call rotation on an as-needed basis.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

About the Role

The PRN Registered Nurse is part of a multidisciplinary treatment team providing nursing care to acutely mentally ill adults at Burke's Mental Health Emergency Center (MHEC). The facility operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Under the clinical direction of a physician and the Nursing Clinical Coordinator, the RN provides direct nursing care, assists with admissions and assessments, administers medications, coordinates psychiatric and emergency healthcare needs, and supports the overall operation of the facility.

What You Need

Required

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Texas license as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Valid Texas driver's license.
• Driving record that meets Burke's insurance requirements.
• Ability to successfully complete Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA), CPR, and First Aid training.

Preferred

• One (1) year of experience as a licensed RN working in a medical or acute mental health setting.

Physical Requirements

This position requires sight, hearing, talking, walking, bending, kneeling, and fine motor skills sufficient for legible handwriting and typing. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
