Job summary

Oncology Consultants - Precision Radiation OfficePay Range: $30.94 – $60.74

Position Summary

The Radiation Therapist (RTT) reports to the Radiation Therapy Lead and provides the technical portion of radiation therapy treatments within the department of Radiation Oncology. The RTT delivers radiation treatments according to written prescriptions and treatment plans while ensuring patient safety through consistent practice of departmental procedures.

Responsibilities include identifying the correct patient, escorting patients to the treatment room, assisting patients onto the treatment table, positioning patients for treatment, delivering radiation from the control room, and assisting patients in exiting the treatment room.

The RTT ensures an environment of caring, support, and consistent quality of treatment delivery, maintaining complete and accurate documentation of treatment records. Unscheduled deviations from prescriptions are reported to the Radiation Therapy Lead and/or Physician. The RTT uses effective communication techniques to explain treatment-related procedures to patients and their families, referring medical questions to appropriate personnel.

Responsibilities also include observing patients for expected and unexpected reactions, reinforcing education and side‑effect management information, indicating non‑compliance, independently performing patient simulations, collecting and documenting data from simulations, and accurately inputting treatment-related data into the EMR.

Additional duties: transport patients, review charts, order supplies, recognize standard imaging/ARGT findings, perform adjustments to ensure high‑quality treatment, complete daily and weekly QA checklists, notify clinical team members of out‑of‑tolerance findings, and participate in quality‑improvement programs. The RTT captures and verifies patient treatment charges.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide radiation therapy services as an essential member of the radiation oncology team.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
• Respond to emergency situations, provide first aid and CPR until a physician or nurse arrives.
• Handle stressful situations, make informed decisions, and give emotional support to patients and families.
• Document accurately and legibly treatment set‑ups, doses, and calculations.
• Use good judgment when treatment may need to be held pending oncologist consultation.
• Explain procedures and emergency protocols to patients.
• Reinforce advice on skin care, mouth care, diet, and general welfare.
• Guide therapists under supervision on both routine and complex tumor localization and treatment.
• Fulfill essential RTT functions in the clinical setting.
• Evaluate treatment delivery components, perform QA and QC checks, and address equipment malfunctions.
• Assess daily physiological and psychological responsiveness of each patient and provide effective education.
• Adhere to national, institutional, and departmental standards, policies, and procedures for patient care.
• Comply with all Federal and State laws and regulations regarding patient care, rights, safety, billing, and collections.
• Follow company policies and procedures, including IT and disaster recovery plans.

Position Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• Minimum: Graduate from an accredited School of Radiation Therapy Technology.
• Preferred: BS Degree in Radiation Therapy Technology or related field.

Previous Experience

• Minimum of one (1) year active experience as a Radiation Therapist.
• Recent graduates of an accredited RTT program eligible to sit for their registry will be considered.
• Recent graduates must pass the RTT Registry exam within 6 months of hire.

Licenses & Certifications

• Certified as a Registered Radiation Therapy Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
• Dual certification as a General Radiographer (ARRT) or CT Technologist is preferred.
• Current CPR/BLS certifications required.

Skills
