The candidate should have PTCB certification or be registered as a Pharmacy Technician, with at least three years in healthcare and willingness to travel to meetings and training

Qualifications

  • PTCB certification or registration as a Pharmacy Technician required.
  • Minimum 3 years' healthcare experience, preferably clinical Pharmacy Technician.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to educational and research meetings and training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and mix chemotherapy drugs under licensed supervision in compliance with state laws.
  • Maintain proficiency with the Nucleus system and accurate dispensing and par-levels.
  • Review next-day orders with nursing to anticipate special medication needs.
  • Order, stock, track medical supplies; manage inventory with minimal waste.
  • Ensure records for compassionate drugs, trials, biohazard waste, and related processes; comply with laws and policies.
  • Train new technicians and collaborate with nurses, physicians, supervisors, and pharmaceutical reps.
  • Support multi-location operations and attend mandatory Safety/OSHA trainings.

Job description

Location: Messino Cancer Centers

Hiring Range: $18.00 - $28.08

Position Summary

Maintains the ordering and stocking of medications and supplies as needed in the clinic. Under supervision of appropriate licensed healthcare professional as defined by State regulations, prepares and mixes medications. Coordinates with drug sales representatives, and pharmaceutical companies to obtain samples, teaching aids, and compassionate drugs. Acts as liaison between Physicians, Nursing, Pharmacy Supervisor and Purchasing in obtaining special order medications.

Key Performance Areas
1. Medication Preparation & Dispensing
  • Prepare and mix chemotherapy drugs and solutions under appropriate licensed supervision and in compliance with state regulations.
  • Maintain proficiency with the Nucleus medication dispensing system and ensure accurate medication dispensing and par-level management.
  • Review next-day orders with nursing staff to anticipate special medication needs.
2. Inventory, Supply, and Equipment Management
  • Order, stock, and track medical supplies and medications, ensuring appropriate inventory levels and minimal waste.
  • Perform daily and annual maintenance of chemotherapy hoods and manage ambulatory pump documentation.
  • Handle biohazardous waste disposal safely and compliantly, including recordkeeping and coordination with Accounting.
3. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
  • Maintain required records for compassionate drug programs, clinical trials, biohazard waste, and related pharmacy processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal/state laws, patient privacy regulations, OSHA standards, and organizational policies.
4. Training & Collaboration
  • Assist in training new pharmacy technicians and nursing staff on chemotherapy preparation and Nucleus system workflows.
  • Collaborate with nurses, physicians, supervisors, and pharmaceutical representatives as needed to support patient care and operational needs.
5. Operational Flexibility & Professional Responsibilities
  • Support operations across multiple locations as needed and work overtime when required.
  • Participate in mandatory meetings, including annual Safety/OSHA training.
Position Qualifications
Education
  • Following applicable state regulations, PTCB Certification or Registered as Pharmacy Technician is required.
Minimum Relevant Experience
  • Minimum of three years' experience in the healthcare field, preferably in a clinical setting as a Pharmacy Technician is preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally to educational and research meetings as well as training sessions.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid State Drivers License for travel to clinics is required.
