PRN or Part-Time Emergency Veterinarian – Memphis Veterinary Specialists

Memphis Veterinary Specialists (MVS) in Memphis, Tennessee is a leading multi‑specialty and emergency veterinary center. We provide top‑tier care to a broad, diverse client base with a highly skilled team of veterinarians and clinicians.

We’re seeking a Part‑Time or PRN Emergency Veterinarian to join our team as a consistent home hospital assignment with predictable hours and a flexible schedule that supports work‑life balance.

Compensation: $900 – $1,500 USD per shift, depending on shift type (Swing, Day, Night). Part‑time positions are prorated based on hours worked; salary ranges reflect full‑time roles.

Key Responsibilities

• Comprehensive patient examinations and medical work‑ups
• Client communication and education
• Performing diagnostic procedures and surgery
• Maintaining accurate medical records
• Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols
• Promoting teamwork and staff efficiency
• Collaborating with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations
• Evaluating and monitoring protocols for the daily operation of the hospital from intake to discharge
• Monitoring cases in the hospital and attending daily rounds when possible to ensure the highest standards are upheld
• Participating in practice management updates and training at all levels
• Performing other duties as assigned by Management

Qualifications (Required)

• Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university
• Current state veterinary license
• DEA registration must be obtained and maintained
• 1+ years of experience in a veterinary emergency practice
• Strong diagnostic and clinical skills
• Excellent surgical and dental skills
• Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality veterinary care
• Effective communication with all members of the medical and hospital staff
• Client communication skills, including establishing rapport and providing clear explanations
• Confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or in‑pain patients
• Physical ability to perform moderate physical tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
