Job summary

Dover Health is seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant to promote patient well-being and independence. You will work with the Dover Health teams to help patients return to maximum self-care, through direct care and collaboration.

You will supervise therapists, update care plans, educate patients and families, and participate in discharge planning. This role requires travel within the service area and a commitment to safety and ongoing learning.

Qualifications

  • Must hold an active Occupational Therapy Assistant license in the applicable state.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification is required.
  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation and auto insurance.
  • Ability to work well in teams and take direction.
  • Self-motivated with accountability for results.
  • Proficiency with Internet browsers and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher) and EHR systems.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Therapists within practice standards and laws.
  • Observe and report patient responses to treatment to supervisors.

Description

The Occupational Therapist Assistant will have the opportunity to connect with and positively impact the lives of our patients daily! You will promote the physical, personal, and emotional well-being of patients and work with the Dover Health teams to strive to reach the ultimate goal, which is to return the patient to their maximum level of self-care and independence, when possible.

Essential Duties:

  • Supervision of Occupational therapists, within the Standards of Practice for Occupational Therapy, and in compliance with the applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies.
  • Observe, record, and report the client's reaction to treatment and any changes in the client's condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist, physician, Director of Nursing, Administrator and/or Clinical Supervisor as needed and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Collaborate with the Occupational Therapist in updating the plan of care as necessary and promoting coordination of care through interprofessional or interdisciplinary communication in accordance with the agency policies.
  • Educate patients and their families or caregivers about managing patient's illness or injury, including home care needs, home safety, and use of assistive and adaptive devices.
  • Participate in care coordination and discharge planning activities and acting as a resource to other health care personnel in meeting patient's needs.
  • Participate in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in professional development and lifelong learning activities.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand/move, communicate, and identify written information. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds independently; occasionally lift and/or move up to 200 pounds with assistance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

  • Current Occupational Therapy Assistant license in the state(s) of practice.
  • Current Basic Life Support/CPR certification.
  • Current and valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current liability auto insurance.
  • Ability to work well with others and take direction from management, as well as take initiative – willing to go above and beyond to ensure our patients needs are met and they are comfortable in their living environment.
  • Self-motivated to accomplish identified goals with a strong sense of accountability for results.
  • Be able to demonstrate proficiency in Internet browsers (e.g., Explorer, Chrome, and Fire Fox), Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word and Publisher, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and any HR related systems if applicable.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand for extended periods of time, move, communicate, and identify written information. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds independently, and occasionally lift and/or move up to two hundred (200) pounds with assistance.
  • Work for this position is performed in patient homes, care settings/facilities, and office settings. This position will have to navigate through a variety of different settings to provide care.
  • There is exposure to varied home environments and potential infectious conditions.
  • Must comply with all Dover Health and safety requirements.
  • This role involves actively participating in all staff activities aimed at fostering teamwork, unity, and morale. The individual will contribute as a collaborative team player, working alongside colleagues to create a supportive and cohesive work environment.
