Job summary

Saint Anthony Hospital in Chicago is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform PET/SPECT and planar imaging under physician supervision. You will handle radiopharmaceutical preparation and administration, operate gamma cameras and PET/CT systems, and ensure patient safety throughout the imaging process.

Compensation

$34.60-$53.84

Position Purpose

Performs nuclear medicine procedures under the supervision of a physician authorized user. Operates gamma cameras, PET/CT systems, and related equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic images. Ensures patient safety, prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals according to protocol, and provides compassionate care throughout the imaging process.

  • Nuclear Medicine Imaging Procedures (50%)
  • Performs routine and specialized nuclear medicine exams including PET, SPECT, and planar imaging according to established protocols.
  • Verifies physician orders, confirms patient identification, and reviews clinical history to ensure appropriate exam selection.
  • Positions patients accurately and selects technical parameters to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Processes images using appropriate software applications and ensures proper labeling and documentation.
  • Radiopharmaceutical Preparation and Administration (20%)
  • Prepares, handles, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with safety regulations and facility protocols.
  • Follows all NRC and state regulatory guidelines regarding radiation safety, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Assesses venous access and performs IV injections using safe and aseptic technique.
  • Monitors patients for adverse reactions and takes appropriate action as needed.
  • Documentation and Image Management (15%)
  • Accurately documents procedures, radiopharmaceutical doses, and patient data in EMR and imaging systems.
  • Transfers studies to PACS or nuclear medicine processing systems in proper sequence and verifies completeness.
  • Maintains accurate records for radiation exposure, quality control logs, and radiopharmaceutical inventory.
  • Equipment and Quality Control (5%)
  • Performs daily quality assurance checks on nuclear medicine and PET/CT equipment.
  • Reports malfunctions and coordinates service as needed.
  • Ensures calibration of dose calibrators, well counters, and gamma cameras in accordance with quality control protocols.
  • Maintains cleanliness and readiness of imaging and hot lab areas.
  • Collaboration and Team Support (5%)
  • Collaborates with radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, nurses, and other technologists to ensure timely and effective patient care.
  • Assists in training new staff or students and supports departmental quality improvement initiatives.
  • Professional Development (5%)
  • Maintains active certification (e.g., NMTCB, ARRT-N) and state licensure as required.
  • Participates in continuing education and complies with CE requirements to stay current with advancements in nuclear medicine and PET/CT technology.
