Akumin is hiring an MRI Technologist for the State College, PA location as a PRN role. The position focuses on performing high-quality MRI procedures in outpatient or hospital settings, ensuring patient safety, image quality, and efficient workflow.

The role requires strong adaptability and reliable teamwork within clinical sites. Responsibilities include patient screening for MRI safety, performing scans per orders, documenting procedures, and maintaining HIPAA-compliant records.

Qualifications

• ARRT MRI certification required or registry-eligible.
• Active state licensure (if required).
• Current BLS certification.
• Certificate from college or technical school.

Responsibilities

• Screen patients for MRI safety, explain procedures, and monitor during scans.
• Perform MRI scans per physician orders and established protocols.
• Maintain on-time patient flow in a fast-paced outpatient environment and prepare rooms between patients.
• Accurately document procedures, contrast use, and patient information in the chart.
• Collaborate with radiologists, patient coordinators, and referring offices to ensure smooth handoffs.

We are currently hiring for an MRI Technologist at our State College, PA location. This will be a PRN opportunity.

The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality magnetic resonance imaging procedures in fast-paced outpatient or hospital setting. This role ensures patient safety, image quality, and efficient workflow while delivering a positive patient experience. This position requires strong adaptability, reliability, and the ability to integrate quickly into existing clinical teams.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Patient Care & Safety

• Screen patients thoroughly for MRI safety (implants, contraindications, metal exposure). Explain procedures clearly and address patient concerns to reduce anxiety. Monitor patients during scans and respond appropriately to adverse reactions. Maintain strict adherence to MRI safety protocols and infection control standards.

Imaging & Technical Performance

• Perform MRI scans according to physician orders and established protocols. Adjust scanning parameters to ensure optimal image quality. Minimize repeat scans by ensuring accuracy on first acquisition. Operate MRI equipment and related systems safely and efficiently.

Workflow & Throughput

• Maintain on-time patient flow in a tightly scheduled outpatient environment. Prepare rooms and equipment between patients efficiently. Communicate delays or issues proactively with front desk and clinical staff. Support same-day add-ons when feasible

Documentation & Compliance

• Accurately document procedures, contrast use, and patient information. Verify orders and ensure all required documentation is complete prior to scanning. Follow HIPAA and all regulatory guidelines. Assist with accreditation and quality assurance processes as needed.

Team Collaboration

• Work collaboratively with radiologists, patient coordinators, and referring offices. Provide clear handoffs and communicate any clinical concerns. Adapt quickly to site-specific protocols and workflows.

Position Requirements:

• Certificate from College or Technical School
• Current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in MRI (MR) or registry-eligible.
• Active state licensure (if required)
• Current BLS certification
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization and adapt to new environments quickly.
• Ability to work at several locations.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
• Local travel may be required

Preferred Requirements:

• Associate's Degree or Equivalent Experience
• 1–3+ years of MRI experience, preferably in an outpatient setting
• Experience with high-volume scheduling environments
• Familiarity with multiple MRI systems (e.g., GE, Siemens, Philips)
• Knowledge and experience in several OEMs and with multiple vendors such as GE, Siemens, Philips, etc.
