Job summary

Advocate Health in High Point, NC seeks a Medical Lab Technician for the Hematology/Oncology Clinic. This part-time, PRN role requires a NAACLS-approved program completion, MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification, and at least 2 years of hematology experience. Associate degree preferred.

You will ensure accurate, timely test results, follow QC/QA procedures, and communicate findings within LIS. Expect variable shifts in a fast-paced hospital lab environment that prioritizes patient care.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years hematology experience required.
  • MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification required.
  • NAACLS approved Medical Technician program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to hospital standards to promote teamwork and safety.
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of patient lab results.
  • Performs procedures efficiently with minimal supervision and timely turnaround.
  • Responds to STATs immediately.
  • Follows QC/QA procedures to ensure result quality.

  • Schedule Details/Additional Information: Must have at least 2 years' experience with hematology experience.

  • Pay Range: $25.30 - $37.95

  • Position Highlights: Shift Schedule: PRN, Variable shifts

  • Department: Hematology/Oncology Clinic

  • Location: High Point, NC

  • Education & Experience: Associate degree preferred.

  • Previous experience as a Medical Lab Technician preferred.

  • Hematology experience highly preferred.

  • Licensure, Certification and/or Registrations: MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification required.

  • Successful completion of a NAACLS approved Medical Technician program preferred.



How You’ll Impact Patient Care:


  • Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.

  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of patient laboratory test results.

  • Performs procedures efficiently and as indicated in the procedure manual with minimal supervision and within the required turn-around-time without compromising quality.

  • Responds to STATs immediately.

  • Follows workflow processes according to documented procedures.

  • Documents and communications are reviewed in a timely manner and are appropriately referenced and applied.

  • Ensures quality of test results by following defined Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) procedures.

  • Follows QC procedures and evaluates QC results prior to reporting patient results.

  • Test results are reviewed for accuracy and are promptly reported in the LIS.

  • Ensures safety and compliance.

  • Maintains appropriate education to accomplish work objectives and maintain current certifications as applicable.

  • Ensures productive and efficient operations of the section and department.

  • Coordinates activities and effectively communicates with others within and outside of lab section to accomplish work objectives through positive and professional interactions contributing to collegiality, teamwork and overall section productivity.

  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively.

  • Technical ability and interest.

  • Computer and keyboard skills preferred.



Work Environment:


  • Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens or patients.

  • Exposed to risk of bloodborne/airborne disease.

  • Must wear protective equipment (gloves, gowns/lab coats, eye protection, face protection).

  • Exposed to hazards for electrical/mechanical/power equipment.

  • May be exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens.

  • May be exposed to toxic/flammable/explosive chemicals and gases.

  • Subject to injury from moving parts of equipment.

  • Moderate noise environment.

  • Subject to injury from sharps.

  • May require judgment/action which could result in death of patient.

  • Subject to many interruptions.

  • Occasionally subject to irregular hours.

  • Subject to stressful situation.
