Job summary

Baptist Health in Kentucky is seeking a Histotechnician to prepare tissue specimens by sectioning, staining and mounting for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. This role operates under CLIA ’88 guidelines and supports the Pathologist with various examinations.

The position includes quality control, quality assurance, maintenance and troubleshooting. Duties may also involve clerical tasks, specimen collection and related laboratory services, with HT certification required within one year

Qualifications

• Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program or an Associate degree that includes 12 hours in biology and chemistry, or 60 semester hours with biology and chemistry and 1 year of histopathology experience.
• Must obtain HT certification within 1 year of eligibility.

Summary Job Description

Responsible to section, stain and mount tissue specimens in preparation for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. Assists the Pathologist in making various examinations on submitted tissue specimens and subsequent preparations. Performance of duties is in accordance with CLIA ’88 guidelines. Performs quality control, quality assurance, maintenance and troubleshooting. Duties may also include clerical tasks, specimen collection, and related laboratory services.

Minimum Requirements

Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program (within the last five years if not ASCP certified) OR Associate degree that includes 12 hours in both biology and chemistry OR At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at minimum, includes 12 semester hours of both biology and chemistry and 1 year of documented clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last five years Once eligible, must obtain HT certification within 1 year.
