Job summary

Advanced Correctional Healthcare, Inc. is seeking a registered nurse to provide high-quality nursing care within a correctional facility in Traverse City, MI.

You will assess, plan, administer medications, and coordinate with practitioners to deliver essential healthcare services on-site. Responsibilities include accurate charting, vital signs, and patient education, with a focus on safety and HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state where services are provided.
• BLS certification; hands-on training.
• Excellent documentation skills to ensure accurate charting.

Responsibilities

• Timely and accurately assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patients
• Contact practitioner to obtain orders
• Administer prescribed medication, treatments and other tasks as ordered by the practitioner
• Provide emergency first aid care, when appropriate
• Check and record vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose checks, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site, when appropriate
• Triage officer intake screenings for necessity and priority at sick call
• Record data for statistical reporting on the CQI
• Record care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner
• Report reactions to treatments and medications, and changes in patients' conditions
• Provide patient education on facility policies and discharge planning
• Collaborate with multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment
• Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control precautions
• Maintain knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutic diets
• Maintain knowledge of social and behavioral sciences in the correctional setting
• Suggest improved procedures, equipment, and supplies to supervisor
• Notify supervisor of medical or security incidents
• Present/participate in in-service education sessions
• Perform duties within state/local scope of practice
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices
• Oversee and delegate duties under RN scope of practice
• May cover shifts at multiple correctional facilities
• May train new hires and coworkers
• All other duties as assigned

• Collaborate and coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment, as directed by the practitioner
• Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control precautions as required
• Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of pharmacology, including drug reaction/overdose
• Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition
• Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of social and behavioral sciences, particularly as applied to the correctional institutional setting
• Recommend improved procedures, equipment, and supplies to your supervisor
• Notify supervisor of medical or security incidents
• Present/participate in in-service education sessions
• Perform duties within the scope of practice mandated by state and local standards
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices as required by government agencies
• Oversee and delegate duties as expected and allowed under the RN scope of practice
• May be directed to cover shifts at multiple correctional facilities
• May be asked to act as a back-up to the H.S.A/Site Manager
• May be asked to train new hires and coworkers
• Any and all other duties as assigned

Qualifications
