Job summary

650 DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS in Norman Veterans Home is seeking a PRN Courtesy Tech/Patient Care to support nursing staff and residents. This role involves non-direct care duties to assist resident care and maintain a safe, comfortable living environment.

Responsibilities include helping residents at meals, transporting within the facility, stocking supplies, and performing basic clerical tasks. Education and experience are not required at entry level; English communication and teamwork

Positions in this job family are involved in assisting direct care (Nursing) staff with residents. This includes any non-direct care needs and duties to support resident care.

Typical Functions
  • Offer companionship and calming presence to residents as needed.
  • Assist resident in dining room (carry trays, putting on clothing protector, drink refills, etc.)
  • Assist in dining activities on unit (passing out trays, putting on clothing protector, wiping tables)
  • Transport residents to and from activities inside the facility.
  • Assists in maintaining and providing a clean, safe environment.
  • Orders, receives and stores supplies and performs basic clerical functions.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the English language in order to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability is required to record observations and activities, to follow oral and written directions, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Special Requirements
  • Some agencies may require the translation of health information for non-English speaking clients.
  • The Department of Veterans Affairs requires current certification in good standing by the Oklahoma State Department of Health as a (CNA) Certified Nursing Aide for Level I and II.
  • Level III requires certification as a (CMA-A) Certified Medication Aide Advanced by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
  • Some agencies may have determined positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by63 O.S. § 427.8.
