Job description

Department: SCMG Womens Health Care Center: Pembroke - Obstetrics/Gynecology Status: Part time Shift: 1st (United States of America) Schedule Details/Additional Information: PRN Call Shift & 8am-5pm on clinic days Job Description:



  • Under established protocol, manages normal obstetrical cases, including routine intrapartum and postpartum care.

  • Performs clinical examinations for antepartal care and routine gynecological care.

  • Performs clinical evaluation of patient for prenatal care, family planning, and for well-women gynecologic care.

  • Provides obstetrical care services in a manner, which fosters education, personal responsibility, and family involvement.

  • Seeks consultation according to nurse midwifery protocols from all members of the health care team involved in patient care and makes appropriate referrals. Provides consultation services as required by the health care team.

  • In conduct of duties follows current hospital safety and infection control policies and procedures; ensures compliance with applicable government and accrediting organization standard; and actively participates in the organization’s Performance Improvement Program.

  • In conjunction with Nursing Administration and OB physician's, monitors and recommends, when appropriate, changes to clinical and administrative policies and procedures associated with obstetric and gynecological care delivery.

  • Maintains knowledge of current trends, issues, techniques, and procedures within the nursing midwifery profession.

  • Demonstrates collaborative and consultative relationships with other providers within the institution, community and state.

  • Participates in peer evaluations and review of other midwives upon request.

  • Acts as a clinical preceptor for midwifery students.

  • Provides triage and first response in Labor and Delivery for patients from Marlboro OB/GYN, Carolina Women's Center, the office of Dr. Harvey Kohn, Scotland County Health Department, and unassigned.

  • Provides telephone triage for patients from all sources listed above.

  • Collaborates with Scotland Health Care System physicians in planning and implementing care for OB/GYN clients.

  • Evaluates individual health care status of patients, formulates a management plan and revises the plan as indicated.

  • Educates lay and/or professional groups through lecture, papers, publications, and educational materials.

  • Maintains current knowledge of techniques, skills, current practices and regulations that are specific to the age of the patients being served.

  • Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

  • Demonstrates supportive behaviors necessary for services rendered that require consideration of client age.


Age Specific Competency: Staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients.


The age categories to be included are: Neonatal/Infant 0 - 11 months; Pediatrics 1 – 12 yrs; Adolescence 13 - 17 yrs; Young Adult/Adult 18 – 64 yrs; Adult/Middle-Aged 65 - 79 yrs; Geriatric 80+ yrs
