Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Part-time PRN Chaplain to provide spiritual care in a hospital setting. The role includes counseling, sacramental ministry, and crisis support for patients, families, and staff at the Carolinas Medical Center – Mission and Spiritual Care. Requires M.Div.

and 1–3 years of chaplaincy with CPE, plus ecclesiastical endorsement. Salary ranges from $28.55 to $42.85 per hour, with eligibility for total rewards, benefits, and professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from an accredited college or university.
• Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent master’s degree program.
• If using an equivalent degree, a certification agency letter confirms education standards.
• Four (4) Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units.
• Ecclesiastical endorsement from sponsoring faith community.
• Member in good standing with sponsoring faith community.
• 1–3 years of clinical chaplaincy experience.
• Board certification within 18 months of hire; APC/NACC/NAJC options.

Responsibilities

• Delivers wholistic ministry of spiritual care for patients, families, team members and physicians.
• Provides spiritual care, consultation and short-term counseling as assigned.
• Facilitates sacramental ministries according to site and system policies.
• Responds to codes and emergencies; supports families during illness and death procedures.
• Ensures integrated services and participates in site coverage including weekends/holidays.
• Participates in interdepartmental teams, grand rounds, and ethics discussions.
• Mentors students in CPE programs and provides feedback to supervisors.
• Supports advocacy for faith community mission within the hospital setting.

Education
