Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a PRN Certified Surgical Scrub Tech at Olathe Hospital. Under RN direction, you will assist during major and minor operative procedures, maintaining sterile technique and providing instruments to surgeons.

Requirements include a Surgical Technician degree and at least 1 year of experience or equivalent education. BLS certification is required, and the role is part-time with flexible PRN hours.

Responsibilities

• Maintain asepsis, positioning, prepping and draping; manage needle and instrument counts.
• Prepare and sterilize instruments; decontaminate and set up OR suite for next case.
• Provide instruments to surgeon and assist in procedures as directed by RN.
• Offer psychological and physical comfort to patients and report changes to RN/Charge Nurse.
• Adhere to unit-specific professional, clinical and/or technical competencies.

Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Surgical Technician, under the direction of the Registered Nurse and the Nurse Manager, performs essential duties to assist the medical staff with the performance of major and/or minor procedures within the operative setting.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

• Following department standards maintains asepsis, positioning, prepping and draping, needle and instrument count, specimen care and dressing application. -
• Prepares instruments and supplies for sterilization; cleans and decontaminates instruments; assists in cleaning/preparing OR suite for next case. -
• Provides appropriate instrumentation to surgeon. -
• Provides psychological and physical comfort measures to patient and identifies changes in condition and reports to RN/Charge Nurse.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
