Responsibilities

  • Conduct 2D, Doppler, and color flow echocardiograms to evaluate cardiac function.
  • Perform stress echocardiography and contrast‑enhanced studies as needed.
  • Explain procedures to patients, ensuring comfort and cooperation.
  • Review patient orders and previous diagnostic studies.
  • Recognize normal and abnormal echocardiographic findings.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring optimal image quality.
  • Record echocardiographic images with proper identification information.
  • Discuss test results with the physician or request the physician view the images personally.
  • Coordinate equipment services and maintain patient records.

Education

Associate Degree in cardiac sonography, echocardiography, or a related health science field
Bachelor’s degree preferred

Summary

Registered Cardiac Sonographer will perform outpatient transthoracic echocardiograms to assess heart function and assist physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular conditions. This role requires expertise in ultrasound imaging, patient care, and collaboration with healthcare teams.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conduct 2D, Doppler, and color flow echocardiograms to evaluate cardiac function.
  • Perform stress echocardiography and contrast‑enhanced studies as needed.
  • Explain procedures to patients, ensuring comfort and cooperation.
  • Review patient orders and previous diagnostic studies, and record patient information on cardiologists’ history sheets.
  • Recognize normal and abnormal echocardiographic findings and report concerns to the physicians.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring optimal image quality.
  • Record echocardiographic images with proper identification information; discuss test results with the physician or request the physician view the images personally.
  • Send echocardiographic images to cardiologists per Information Technology (IT) procedures.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate equipment services.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and adhere to confidentiality standards.
  • Work closely with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and infection control protocols.
  • Prepare monthly Outpatient Specialty Clinic and Echocardiography statistic reports for Administration and Business Office.
  • Handle receptionist duties: answer clinic calls, take messages, route calls appropriately, fax paperwork, and process precertifications requested by the physician.
  • Practice sterile techniques and prevent cross‑contamination; maintain orderliness and cleanliness of rooms, equipment, and personnel.
  • Maintain outpatient clinic supplies, restocking as needed.
  • Report equipment failure directly to the director.
  • Stay current on developments in cardiac sonography by reading technical journals and engaging in continuing education.
  • Adhere to prescribed standards of practice for cardiac sonography.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience
