Job summary

Grant Thornton US is seeking a Private Wealth Services Tax Manager to lead complex tax return reviews and craft income, estate, and gift tax strategies for high net worth clients and closely held businesses. You will collaborate with our Private Wealth Services Tax team to enhance accuracy, client service, and value delivery.

You'll manage multiple engagements, mentor staff, and contribute to business development while applying cutting-edge tax planning and planning software to optimize outcomes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting - CPA or licensed member of the Bar or Enrolled Agent designation (with Masters Degree) required
  • Minimum six to ten years of progressive tax compliance and/or consulting experience in Family Wealth Planning or related area in public accounting or a combination of industry and public accounting experience
  • Experience with family units with $25 million+ net worth and a proven track record of tax strategy implementation
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills with ability to develop and maintain client relationships
  • Strong leadership, business development, recruiting, training, coaching, and mentoring skills with excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities in a fast-paced, results-based team environment

Responsibilities

  • Providing tax planning and consulting to high net worth clients for estate, wills and trusts taxation, and individual income taxes.
  • Interacting with attorneys and financial asset managers to coordinate tax strategies
  • Managing multiple client service teams on engagements; planning, directing, and completing tax projects across industries
  • Mentoring and training staff on tax projects and assessing performance
  • Researching federal estate, gift, charitable planning, and generation-skipping tax matters using tax software
  • Responding to inquiries from the IRS and other tax authorities
  • Maintaining active communication with clients to manage expectations and deadlines
  • Supporting business development activities, including proposals and other client pursuits

Job description

As the Private Wealth Services Tax Manager, you'll conduct primary and secondary reviews of complex tax returns and provide income, estate, and gift tax planning strategies for your high net worth, closely held business and family business clients - all with the resources, environment, and support to help you excel. You'll collaborate with the Private Wealth Services Tax team and make recommendations on return preparation and tax savings opportunities, focusing on accuracy, quality and client service because together is how we succeed. Your day-to-day may include:
  • Providing tax planning and consulting to our firm's high net worth clients for estate, wills and trusts taxation, and individual income taxes. Interact closely with client's other advisers, such as attorneys and financial asset managers
  • Managing multiple client service teams on client engagements; plan, execute, direct, and complete tax projects in a wide variety of industries; provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise to clients; actively assist in proposal activities and manage to budget
  • Managing, developing, training, and mentoring staff on tax projects and assess performance for engagement and year-end reviews
  • Researching and consulting on various tax matters, primarily in the federal estate, gift, charitable planning, and generation-skipping tax arenas; utilize tax-related software to prepare and process returns and research tax matters.
  • Responding to inquiries from the IRS and other tax authorities
  • Maintaining active communication with clients to manage expectations, ensure deadlines are met, and enhance client relationships
  • Supporting business development activities, such as identification, proposal development and other pursuit activities at clients
  • Other duties as assigned
You have the following technical skills and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting - CPA or licensed member of the Bar or Enrolled Agent designation (with Masters Degree) required
  • Minimum six to ten years of progressive tax compliance and/or consulting experience in Family Wealth Planning or related area in public accounting or a combination of industry and public accounting experience
  • You have experience in dealing with family units with $25 million and above in net worth, and a proven track record of implementation of tax strategies
  • You have excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills
  • You have exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships
  • You have strong leadership, business development, recruiting, training, coaching, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • You have the ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment

The base salary range for this position is between $138,000 and $172,500. Placement within the pay range is at Grant Thornton's discretion, and it is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, progression within the role, geographic location, and internal equity. At Grant Thornton, compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
